It's the century anniversary for Route 66, and although some of these are not TECHNICALLY route 66 photos, the whole premise behind celebrating the route is being on the road, seeing America, so I'm lumping in some non-route photos as well. I'll be back again this fall, hoping to find more abandoned places.

I took time to visit a new area last weekend, Caddo Lake state park in Texas. It was more of a scouting mission, so the early afternoon light wasn't ideal, but I did get to see what was there and think about when I might want to come back. It's a cypress tree Disneyland for me, and I'll be back in the fall for sure.

Summer is not my most productive season, photographically-speaking. The trees become one shade of green, the creeks dry up, and it's hard to concentrate on compositions when you're melting. But I found that I could shoot some black and white images that I really like, if I got out early enough to beat the heat . Mountain Fork river panorama.

Vicksburg National Military Park. It was a strange feeling to me to be standing where soldiers fought and died during the civil war. Also crazy to think they were there during the hottest part of the summer. It had to be miserable.

Bit of a storm system brewing north of Idabel. I could tell there was some interesting light from all the different thunderheads forming all around, so I jumped in my truck and drove around, almost giving up before I stumbled over this scene on my way back home. Taken in infrared on a converted camera.
