Cleveland Photographic Society

Cleveland Photographic Society Cleveland Photographic Society since 1887 CPS has operated continuously since 1887, making us one of the oldest camera clubs in North America.

For over 125 years, CPS has grown and adapted, embracing new techniques and technologies - and remains vibrant and active. CPS does not specialize in any one photographic discipline, instead educating and encouraging its members to explore all subjects and types of photography. While the majority of members have converted to digital formats, film enthusiasts remain an active minority. We currently

have over 500 members and are one of only a very few clubs to have our own permanent clubroom. These facilities allow CPS to conduct a Photo School three times each year featuring sessions on Fundamentals of Good Photography, Photoshop Elements Photo Editing, Photoshop Lightroom and a variety of informational and educational programs. CPS meets almost every Friday night throughout the year.

An Extraordinary Photographic Journey

Barbara Pennington...In Person - Clubhouse Open

Friday, August 21 at 7:30 pm

My presentation explores a deeply personal and creative journey-one that transforms photography into powerful storytelling through the creation of books. Centered on
capturing the lives of Extraordinary women, men, and individuals with Down syndrome, the work goes beyond portraits to reveal resilience, individuality, and untold stories.

Through a blend of images and narrative, the presentation walks through the evolution of these projects-from initial inspiration and building trust with subjects, to photographing authentically, and ultimately shaping cohesive books that honor each person’s voice.

It highlights both the artistic process and the human connections that make the work meaningful.

At its heart, this journey is about using photography as a tool for inclusion, awareness, and celebration-creating lasting visual stories that challenge perceptions and shine a light on lives that deserve to be seen, understood, and remembered.

Suburban Symphony Orchestra

Submittal dates: June 15 through July 29

A Collaboration with Suburban Symphony Orchestra: We have been invited by the Suburban Symphony Orchestra to display our photographs digitally during one of their concerts this fall. You may also physically display your work before and after the show, as well as at intermission. The show is performed at Beachwood High School. The images will guide the audience through the story of the musical pieces. The call for entries will follow the depictions of the music and will be specific. The concert date is not yet determined, but it will take place this fall. Each CPS member may submit up to 2 images. When submitting your image, please indicate the musical piece for which it should be displayed. Urban Exploring, Into the Abandoned
Glenn Petranek - Zoom Meeting
Clubhouse will be Open
Friday, July 31 at 7:30 pm

Description: Images of various places and structures forgotten and abandoned and the camera techniques used to capture them.

Photography has been my passion since I received my first camera at age six. For 25 years, I focused on black and white film photography, finding joy in the darkroom’s creative process. In 1999, I transitioned to digital photography, which expanded my creative possibilities while maintaining my fine art foundation.

I love capturing urban landscapes, Americana, and travel scenes. Cities inspire me with their dynamic architecture, while Americana offers a nostalgic glimpse into the nation’s soul. Travel photography allows me to explore and understand different cultures.
