Cleveland Photographic Society

Cleveland Photographic Society since 1887 CPS has operated continuously since 1887, making us one of the oldest camera clubs in North America.

For over 125 years, CPS has grown and adapted, embracing new techniques and technologies - and remains vibrant and active. CPS does not specialize in any one photographic discipline, instead educating and encouraging its members to explore all subjects and types of photography. While the majority of members have converted to digital formats, film enthusiasts remain an active minority. We currently have over 500 members and are one of only a very few clubs to have our own permanent clubroom. These facilities allow CPS to conduct a Photo School three times each year featuring sessions on Fundamentals of Good Photography, Photoshop Elements Photo Editing, Photoshop Lightroom and a variety of informational and educational programs. CPS meets almost every Friday night throughout the year.

Holiday Pictures Wanted!

It's time to start sending in your holiday pictures, whether they are family gatherings, fun activities or fabulous light displays, let's see them all! I will start posting them on November 30 through the month of December.

Here are the submittal rules:

MUST be JPG format - no HEIC, TIFF, PNG etc.

Sized to no larger than 2048 on the long side.

Title - Your Name

Can be any holiday observance held now through the end of the year.

New for CPS Members -

AI Photo Critiques

CPS now has a new service for members. We have partnered with a company that will provide a lengthy, detailed, comprehensive critique of your photograph including composition, technical aspects and suggestions for improvement. This service is also available as a part of our competition process as an option. When entering an image for a competition on ShutterScore you will see an option to have your image get an AI critique.

This is purely optional but it will give us the chance to offer a detailed critique to all those in the competition who want it.

This service is now available to all members at any time. Upload up to 10 JPEG images monthly to [email protected] for an AI critique. They should be original size - no downsizing is needed. Your name will not be posted with the image. AI critiques from competitions and general submissions will be posted in galleries in the Member Portal area of the CPS website.

This is a free service for members and we feel it can be a useful learning tool and we encourage all to give it a try. If you have any problems or suggestions you can also send those to [email protected]. It should be noted that all images submitted are not used in any training of AI models and are stored by third parties for up to 30 days. Your images and critiques will only be viewable by other CPS members and will not be public.

Trumpeter Swans in Northern Ohio

Jerry Jelinek...In Person-Clubhouse Open

Friday, November 27 at 7:30 pm

In 2023, Jerry was captivated by the first trumpeter swan nest he came upon in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. That initial encounter became a personal project as he documented the 2023 nesting season. Jerry says that project is his most fulfilling nature work. His presentation will be centered on the history of trumpeter swans in Ohio, with photos and video of the CVNP swans.
The presentation will feature over 60 minutes of Trumpeter Swan videos that Jerry has captured.

Why: Because we love to be one with nature and capture some cool images! (tripods allowed)

Crown Point is a 115-acre organic farm and ecological preserve, with wetlands, woodlands, native prairie, meadows, and gardens all in one place. The land has been farmed continuously since 1854 and has been USDA-certified organic since 1994, so there is plenty of history to go along with the scenery.

Your Investment: $10 paid in cash that day.

To anyone going to the field trip at Historic B&O Roundhouse, i have arranged for lunch at Grumpy's Cafe after about 1ish.....YOu will be asked if you are going to lunch with us so I can call ahead. See you then!!

Member Spotlight

Barbara Pennington

October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and in honor of this month, Barb's book, "The Extraordinary Ones" (individuals with Down Syndrome and their caregivers) will be featured at the Westlake Porter Library. With the help of Jane Toma, Book Publisher, photos and stories exactly printed from the book will be on display at the library from October 1 - 30. Barb is very grateful to the Porter Library Staff, Andrew & Andrea, for their compassion and enthusiasm for supporting families with special needs. Please stop by and read about these beautiful families and their remarkable stories.
