It's not commonly known but there are beavers that live on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and surrounding private wetlands.

I don't know about anybody else but when I see this picture it makes me want to go bowling. Lol

It's part of my most favorite time to watch and photograph great blue herons on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge auto tour route, the dreads of winter.

When most other fish-eating birds have flown south for the winter, the great blue heron stays behind and works out a living by stealing fish from other birds and stalking rodents in the upland areas of the refuge.

For me, personally, there is no better time to be behind a camera.

Attracting and sustaining nature in your own backyard yard can be as simple as leaving the flowers, once they have bloomed, to go to seed and left for the birds to eat.

Having a constant supply of water is also a great way to attract more life, especially birds, to the backyard.

I don't need to go on vacation to visit exotic, far away places to relax.

I also don't need money or material goods to be happy.

All I need, as one example, is a few minutes in my patch of milkweed looking for monarch butterfly caterpillars and my soul has been fed.

This is what just a few minutes in nature, either at a managed wildlife park or in your own backyard, can do to bring true happiness and peace to one's life.

American coots are fierce competitors during nesting season and are extremely loyal in protecting their young and territory. Their fights can be quite brutal looking at times. I filmed this squabble on the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge auto route this past week.
