Curator showcasing kimono designed by at .art . So happy to be able to bring this piece to life and spend time in the Japanese Stroll garden.

His pieces will be on display until July 26 and I encourage everyone to have a look at this amazing exhibition and the tranquil grounds of the Hammond museum. The evening was alive with the sounds of nature; frogs croaking and birds joining the chorus. Wha a beautiful way to end the night!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the kimono dressing demonstration last night! And thank you to , and .art for such a wonderful experience.

The bond between siblings is something truly special, and it was a joy to watch them celebrate these milestones together in kimono.

At age three, children traditionally celebrate kamioki, marking the time when they are allowed to begin growing their hair after early childhood. At seven, girls celebrate obitoki, the moment they transition to wearing a proper obi, symbolizing growth and readiness to step into the next stage of childhood.

Seeing them honor both kamioki (3) and obitoki (7) side by side brought so much warmth to the day. Moments like this, filled with laughter, silly faces and closeness, are what make Shichi Go San so meaningful.

In this moment, I think we all felt it. As a parent, there is something so bittersweet about watching your child reach these milestones, and the pride in the air was unmistakable.

Traditionally, Shichi Go San is celebrated at ages three, five, and seven. If you happened to miss your child’s year, we offer a wide selection of kimono and can often accommodate celebrations within that age range. We offer plenty of options for five year old girls and seven year old boys, and are always happy to guide families in choosing what feels most appropriate.

This Shichi Go San session at Shofuso was filled with joy from beginning to end. Her energy was contagious, and the way she moved through the garden felt completely her own. Her hair and makeup were lovingly styled by her mother to complement her look, and she chose to celebrate in a Hello Kitty kimono by Sanrio, which suited her beautifully.

Shichi Go San at Shofuso offers families a meaningful way to experience this tradition and we welcome children from all backgrounds. During dressing, Tamiko gently shares the significance of each piece, allowing children and parents alike to connect more deeply with what they are wearing.

Children are free to laugh, explore, and move naturally. Between moments, thoughtful adjustments ensure the kimono silhouette remains refined, so parents can relax knowing every detail is tended to.

This was our first Shichi Go San session day at Shofuso, and the sky was covered in soft clouds. The colors throughout the garden seemed to melt into one another in the most beautiful way. I always find myself smiling when I see an overcast forecast, because the clouds bring something special to a session day. The kimono colors feel even more vibrant against the muted tones of the garden.

I was secretly hoping someone would pair this black, red, and gold furisode with the mizuhiki and gold leaf hairstyle, and when she chose it herself, I was so excited! She even chose to restyle the kimono at the end of her shoot as a furisode dress and I was absolutely thrilled. This day remains one of the most wonderful memories of Shichi Go San!

Sometimes Grandma’s gifts bring the biggest smiles.

She knew exactly what would make her light up, and it was such a joy to photograph this beautiful yukata set in the quiet moments after her main portraits.
