Italy day 3 & 4 🍋🇮🇹

We’ve been having such a wonderful time, walking around, visiting Limone, Malcesine, and today Verona.

Some of these moments were captured on my fufjilm and some on my phone (I know, criminal for this page 🤪) but honestly it’s been so hot that sometimes pulling out my phone has just been easier & when it’s crowded it feels silly to involve the whole camera 🤭

I am so excited to look through all of the videos I have captured as well, so I’m sorry in advance for the spam headed your way soon(ish).

We have our last day here tomorrow, then a long drive back to Germany, then a full week of visiting with family and friends before I’m back in Michigan with Brody 🤍

Italy Day 2 🇮🇹

I took the Fujifilm out tonight when my mom and I went to Torri del Benaco for dinner and it was just so beautiful!

Hoping to have photos like these to share for each day we are here and of course working on travel diaries (mini vlogs) as well but those will come later 🤭🇮🇹

Just feeling so grateful to get to visit a beautiful place like this!

Day one in Italy 🇮🇹

There is something about seeing a place for the first time in the early morning. We biked from Lazise toward Bardolino while Lake Garda was still quiet, the boats were sitting in the harbor, and the morning light was hitting everything just right.

I brought my camera along with no real plan other than to photograph whatever caught my eye. The boats, the flowers, the colors of the buildings, the mountains across the water, even a breakfast table tucked under the trees.

It was slow, beautiful, ridiculously hot, and exactly how I wanted to spend our first morning here.

A few photographs for the travel archive. 🤍🇮🇹

Emily & Marcus
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think engagement sessions are one of the most overlooked parts of the wedding experience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most couples book them because they want photos for their save the dates or wedding website, but after photographing weddings for years, I think the biggest benefit is something completely different.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s the chance to get to know each other before the wedding day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I met Emily and Marcus in South Haven, we spent the evening walking through downtown, ending the night on the beach as the sun disappeared over Lake Michigan. Somewhere between the first few photos and the last, it stopped feeling like a photoshoot and just felt like we were hanging out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By the time their wedding day gets here next year, they won’t have to wonder what it’s like to be in front of my camera. We’ll already know each other, and I think that’s one of the greatest gifts an engagement session can give.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I already can’t wait for next year.

A little behind the scenes from these portraits…

We had already taken photos that morning, and during our planning call we had talked about spending another 10 to 15 minutes together after family photos before they joined cocktail hour.

About five minutes in, I could tell something had changed.

They were ready to celebrate. Their people were waiting. They wanted to laugh, hug everyone, grab a drink, and just be newly married.

The last thing I’ll ever do is make a couple stay for photos just because that’s what we planned weeks ago.

Instead, I said, “How about a one minute speed round?”

Forty five seconds later, these were the photos we created.

Sometimes being a wedding photographer isn’t about squeezing in every photo possible. It’s about knowing when enough is enough so you can go enjoy your wedding.

Kelsey & Tom

One of my favorite things about weddings is seeing how every couple makes the day feel like their own.

Kelsey and Tom happened to get married on the Fourth of July, and while there were little nods to the holiday throughout the day, what stood out to me most was how much everyone simply enjoyed being together.

I think that’s why I love photographing weddings so much. Years from now, I don’t think they’ll remember every timeline detail, but I do think they’ll remember how it felt to have all of their favorite people in one place, celebrating the start of their marriage. Those are the moments I hope my photographs bring them back to.

I love a family wedding.

I love watching two people you’ve known for years be loved, celebrated, and married.

One of my favorite parts of a wedding day is seeing how people show up for the couple. During Maddie and Cole’s wedding, I leaned over to Brody and said how beautiful it was to witness how deeply loved they are.

I feel so honored to document days like this, because I think the magic of photography is being able to notice the moments as they unfold. It’s having an eye and an ear open for the memories being made. It’s seeing the big love, the quiet love, the people who are holding the day with you.

Maddie and Cole, I am so excited to see the life you continue to create together. 🤍✨
