Priya is a senior associate scientist II with a background in molecular analytics, along with an extensive list of additional accomplishments in the biotechnology field. Brilliance is her daily jam.

She popped in front of the lights, and we both immediately knew the type of headshot she had in mind. Within about 25 frames, we came away with this gem that exudes thoughtful and approachable confidence.

Clients know I gab a lot during sessions. Somehow this career choice turns me into an extrovert, if just temporarily. In this moment, though, is where the introvert at heart can chill out before the flood gates open.

The simple evolution of a session. We started this look off with glasses and then decided to change things up a bit by removing the frames to bring Nico's eyes onto center stage.

Glasses always add a bit of distinction to a shot, but so can actively engaged eyes. A split-second move offers Nico two great options that he can use in any situation at any time.

Next, you can add four more options by doing the same thing with medium gray and charcoal gray backgrounds. What a library that would be...

This one gets me every time. It's about as reactive as it gets with Keila, who had a moment where she reacted to something ridiculous I said and forgot the camera was in the room. When that happens, that's when expression magic like this shows up on the scene.

George is a seasoned stage actor who needed something very simple and modern to update the headshot he'd been using for several years. He needed lighting that was nice and even, maximizing his versatility.

His resume was a lot longer this time around, and his experience showed with a memorable session that flowed from start to finish.

A friendly, confident expression can immediately put anyone at ease, which is what Alisa's headshot does here. This was part of a larger office shoot, and, don't tell her colleagues, but this shot was one of my favorites from the day.

She's also an accomplished photographer, so it was a lot of fun showing her the view from the other side of the lens. :)

Glasses or no glasses?

You might've seen me talk before about how we captured Nico with and without glasses for variety. Two completely different looks that created a variety of vibes that are usable in any scenario.

Besides helping us see things, glasses can serve as a fantastic accessory that gives you a host of options. Plus, with the right frames they can even tie in some cool clothing. Jazz it up!

At some point in this Instagram feed I've introduced some rule breakers. You know, those instances where you try something different and you hope it works out, and in the end it does in a big way? Lisa's another one of those cases -- granted, we probably tiptoed the line more than anything, but shooting a bright color like yellow can sometimes introduce havoc into an otherwise serene headshot situation. Not here. It's simple enough to add a tiny bit of pop, but it also plays well with the warm tones of her hair.

Bravo on this top choice, Lisa!

Rich is a guy I could shoot headshots with for three hours. He was a fun personality who didn't hesitate to let it rip during expression time. The thing that really sings here is the beard. Unruly, yes. Cool, double yes. And oddly enough, this came on a corporate shoot where he was the second person to shoot white-on-white.

Damn we broke some rules that day. I love it!

April and I had already captured the green top earlier in the shoot, so she was looking to dress things up a bit with a jacket to add some professionalism to the shot.

Not that the green top was uber casual. It works for everything. However, just by tossing on another layer can completely change the look and vibe of a shot.

Versatility in three seconds or less.

Rather than talk about the technical aspects of Kelley's headshot, how about we take a moment to appreciate her piercing eye color.

Too many people opt for headshots with shadowy eyes. They assume it's okay since everyone else's are shadowed up. The thing is, we connect with each other through our eyes. If there's one thing I love about my lighting, it's moments like this where they really help us show off our true spark.

For goodness sake, show your eyes off!
