Every time I see a grizzly, I am shocked at just how immense and powerful they are, yet also how goofy and playful they can be. This mother-daughter pair was a joy to watch as they ate, napped, and pulled apart a log for no apparent reason. ................................................................... 🐻

It was another cold and snowy day, so here is a picture from last summer of a sleepy black bear in Yellowstone National Park. They are hard to spot when napping in the shade like this, but this bear kept re-positioning himself and the movement made him stand out.

Summer is finally winding to a close. While I Iove that so many people spend time in Yellowstone National Park in the summer, I tend to stay away because the crowds are so intense. Fall is a much more peaceful time to visit, and I can't wait to get back there.

It is also an exciting time thanks to the elk rut that runs from September into October, where male elk clash in epic battles to win the hearts of the females. These are two young elk from last fall who were gentle in their sparring compared to their elders. There were no females around at the time, they were simply testing out their skills. Perhaps now that they are older they will be able to win true contests and establish harems of their own.

Badgers are fierce and can be very aggressive, but they are also doting mothers. I came across this badger in the spring while she was in the process of moving her babies to a new den. Yes, that is a tiny baby badger in her mouth 😍

I was lucky to get this grizzly bear cub photo on a beautiful summer day. Despite living in Montana, I rarely see grizzly bears. They are elusive, so I was thrilled at the opportunity to see a wild grizzly family in person. The adorable pair walking across a log demonstrate the tight bond bear cubs have with their mama bear.
