A lot of my love for splitboarding comes from my brother.
After I took my avalanche course in college, I was terrified. I didn’t think I would ever step foot into the backcountry again.
My brother knew better.
He lightly nudged me to join him in the mountains. He would take me to mellow spots he knew I could handle and slowly started pushing me further into the backcountry.
He was patient while I figured out my gear, he listened when I explained all of my fears, and he always walked beside me even when I was moving at a slug like pace.
7 + years later and we’ve been on countless dawn patrols, ridden epic (and not so epic) lines, and we don’t hate each other.
We live in different states now, so the tours are less frequent, but they’re still one of my favorite parts about going home 🤍

I grew up in a family of fishermen. Fishing has always been a big topic at family get togethers.
For anyone who knows a fisherman, they love telling stories almost as much as they love catching fish. So put a bunch of brothers in a room and you’ll hear stories until you’re 100.
I never know what’s true and whats not, but that’s part of the fun.

As my Uncles get older and the fishing becomes less and less, I’ll keeping hold onto their stories, even the ones I’ve heard a thousand times.

Ever since I was a kid the water bombers have been on Sproat Lake. We knew we were home when we could see them in the distance.
I can remember running out of the cabin as fast as we could to catch a glimpse of them overhead on their way to fight fires.

I feel so lucky that I was able to see the Hawaii Mars out on the lake one last time before it makes its way to the aviation museum in Victoria. The lake won’t be the same, but the history lives on.
