This image was taken up on the Beartooth Plateau and is from last summer on August 22, 2025.

A calm lake and a blanket of stars is basically the holy Grail for astro landscape photography as far as I am concerned. This particular night did not fail to deliver.

For those of you interested in the art and science of it all this image was created from two back to back images shot immediately after one another.

The first image was exposed for the sky and water reflection. The second image was exposed for all the solid foreground elements which includes rocks, trees, grass, etc...

I process each image in Lightroom. I then blend both images together in Photoshop and then head back to Lightroom with that new single image for some final touches. Hope you enjoy it.
