Alpenglow Studio Photography After seeing a wild wolf pack in Yellowstone National Park at age 13, my life was forever changed. Come along for the ride as I capture my adventures!

I have a deep wonder for the natural world and spend much of my free time in wild, thriving ecosystems.

🦌 This weekend I took a day trip down through Paradise Valley and into Yellowstone to check out the September scenery. It was a spectacular day for a drive, and these lovely spike elk even made an appearance near Gardiner. They were a delight to photograph. They browsed for food near each other for quite some time, and then approached one another and began to gently play. One of the young bull elk even opened his mouth and let out a very quiet bugle. Someday these two will be a part of the rut and practice is everything! Here are a few of my favorites from these guys.

🦢 This morning a pelican and a great blue heron visited the local pond at the same time! They never got too close to one another but it was very interesting to see their different fishing techniques at the same time. If you look carefully at the second photo, you can see a little fish in the heron's beak.

🍃 I spy with my little eye...something big & brown! I've been going through the archives and decided to revisit this special double moose sighting back in 2021. The younger moose (pictured) was happy to hide behind the rocks and shrubbery for some time. The mother moose was never very far. I took this picture with a 600mm telephoto lens and cropped it to give the moose plenty of space. Give wildlife room, use a zoom!

🦢 Did you know that the American white pelican has a wingspan of about nine feet?! It is one of the largest birds in North America! Check out this photo of a pelican in the local pond showing off that wingspan.

🦌 November can be cold and icy in Yellowstone. But when I visited last week, the roads were clear for the most part, and it was a smooth drive around the Northern part of the park. This elk was spotted right near Gardiner along with about a dozen other elk. Other than a few distant bison, I didn't see any other wildlife between Lamar Valley and Gardiner on this day.

🦆 We've had a very dry fall and have had frequent avian visitors in the thawed local pond. Here are a couple images of Canadian geese with the Bridger mountains in the background. They had just taken off from the pond and were soon out of sight.

🌄 I feel like I struck gold! Exactly one month ago, I saw the northern lights for the first time ever. It was incredible, and I never thought I would be lucky enough to see them again so soon!! Yesterday a powerful geomagnetic storm hit Earth, and last night through this morning I was able to see the lights again. I don't consider myself an astrophotographer, but I was able to snap a few photos of the event with my phone. Enjoy!

🦢 We had some lovely visitors in our local pond at dusk earlier today. I have never seen pelicans this close before! During the breeding season, the white pelican develops a bump on their beak which you can observe in these photos.
