1. Start Before You Feel Ready
I started my photography business at 15, completely self-taught. It wasnโt perfect at first, but starting early let me learn through trial and error. Growth comes from showing up consistently, being willing to fail, and trusting that clarity comes after action, not before it.
2. Experiment Until You Find Your Style
Try new styles, locations, and approaches even if they donโt feel like โyouโ at first. Some experiments wonโt stick, but others will shape your voice as a creative. Exploration is how style is formed, not something you skip once you think youโve found it.
3. Direct With Intention, Not Control
Your job isnโt to over-pose your clients itโs to guide them. Give direction that creates movement, connection, and comfort. When people feel relaxed and present, the images feel real. Authenticity always translates more powerfully than perfection.
4. Protect Your Pricing
Never compromise your pricing or offerings just to book a client. The right clients will see the value and respect your boundaries. Underpricing not only impacts income it also impacts the experience youโre able to deliver.
5. Your Reputation is Everything
Your work is only one part of your business. How you treat clients, respond to messages, and follow through on promises matters just as much. A strong reputation spreads faster than marketing ever could, and it will bring clients who trust you before they even meet you.
