We finally got some snow on the front range! ❄️

Did you know that Colorado’s snowpack levels are in the lowest 5% in history? What exactly does that mean? That means that Colorado has gotten less snow this winter than 95% of winters since recorded history. As a local who cares very deeply about the well-being of my state, this is so worrisome to me, and as a photographer it poses some concerns for 2026 couples.

How could this impact your 2026 elopement?

🔥Wildfires - this is the scariest concern on the list. Low snowpack levels, combined with dry and windy conditions through the winter and spring puts us at significant risk for wildfires in the warmer months. You can’t always prepare for this, but I’ve been telling my 2026 elopement couples to have a backup plan or location just in case your original location is inaccessible or dangerous due to wildfires.
💧Water Levels – Most of the lakes and reservoirs in Colorado are fed by snowmelt. As the snow starts to melt in the spring and early summer, it fills these bodies of water. With snowpack levels this low, I expect that we’ll see lower water levels than normal as well. If you are planning for a lake location for your 2026 elopement, you might see drier conditions and lower water levels at these beloved lakes.
❄️ Snow – January–March is usually our snowiest time of the year, with the mountains usually seeing snow through April and May. If you’re hoping for a snowy Spring elopement, you might see less snow than normal. But don’t worry, there is still snow, just less! I recommend choosing a location at high elevation to give you the best chance for snow this spring.

These conditions are rare in Colorado, and if you are coming from out of state for your elopement, my best advice is to work with local vendors (like me!) who can guide you and provide first hand knowledge and experience to help you plan the perfect elopement. And as always please be respectful of our beautiful land, and always follow fire danger guidelines and leave no trace policies!

What is Self-Solemnization?
It is when a couple can legally marry themselves without an officiant or a witness to be present to sign their marriage license.

Why self-solemnize?
In Colorado you can legally self solemnize, and couples choose to do this for tons of different reasons. Self-solemnizing means you can have a truly private elopement, just with your partner and you can have the moment all to yourselves. Maybe you would feel more comfortable speaking to each other directly rather than having traditional ceremony. Maybe you’re having a celebration with all your loved ones back home and will have a more traditional ceremony at that time. The options are endless!

Do we have to?
Nope! You can still choose to have an officiant or a loved one marry you, self-solemnizing is just an option for couples who might want to!

Should you pack your wedding attire or hike in it?

Save this post for when you start planning your adventure elopement!
I’ve shot many adventure elopements, and I’ve had couples who hike in their attire, and I’ve also had couples who change once they complete their hike. Ultimately, this boils down to preference and your comfort level. If your wedding dress is a heavy ballgown that would make it hard to watch your step, you may want to pack it. If you don’t want to hike 4 miles in the summer heat in a 3 piece suit, pack it! Maybe you don’t like the idea of all the little forest creatures watching you change, wear it! Maybe you love the idea of having photos of you on the hike in your wedding gear (me too!), wear it!

If you choose to pack it, there are a couple ways you can safely pack your wedding attire during your hike.
First way:
1. Roll up or fold your dress or suit
2. I recommend putting it in a protective bag, if you don’t have the plastic that it came in, you can always use a garbage bag.
3. Pack it last, you don’t want to smash it down underneath anything else you might pack.
Second way:
1. If rolling it up isn’t an option, or simply not working with your outfit, you can attach the hanger to one of the straps or loops on the outside of your backpack.
2. You’ll need a hanger for this, and you’ll still want a plastic covering!
3. If your wedding outfit came with a fabric sleeve, put it in there and make sure the hanger is left out
4. Hook the hanger on the back of your backpack! Make sure it’s secure, you definitely don’t want it to fall off! If you have a rain fly for your backpack, you can put it over your dress or suit! You can also put a plastic bag or trash bag over the whole backpack for extra protection!

Ultimately the decision is up to you, and you should focus on comfort! If you choose to pack your outfit, keeping it safe is the number one priority, and following these tips will help make sure that happens!

I’ve been doing some housekeeping recently, cleaning up my hard drives, optimizing my workflow, and re-editing old sessions - just for fun.
I’ve been going through my archives of shoots and sessions for the past six years and I can’t tell you how many galleries I’ve stumbled on where I was like “oh my gosh I totally forgot about this one, I absolutely loved this shoot” and I never even shared the photos on social media. This should be a crime.
All that to say, if you’re a past client, you might be seeing your face on my page here soon because some of these photos are just too good not to share.

Surprise mountain proposals have my heart (even if my heart rate is elevated the whole time)
Elliot planned this beautiful proposal as a total surprise for Katie, and with the added stress of no cell service in the mountains, we had to make sure everything was perfect beforehand!
We managed to pull off this gorgeous proposal and totally surprise Katie!

Hey friends 👋🏻
Just dropping by to say happy fall from me and my sweet family. Stephen and I have spent 6 falls in Colorado, and we’ve agreed that this is the most beautiful fall we have ever witnessed here. I’m such a sucker for a gorgeous Colorado fall, and I’m clinging desperately to the last few weeks of this stunning display nature is putting on for us this year.
(As a side note, taking family photos on a tripod with a toddler is not for the faint of heart 🫠)

My sweet besties are having a girl 💗💗

These amazing humans are just a few weeks away from welcoming their daughter into the world and it has me reminiscing on this day.

I am so happy for them (even if they’re keeping her name a secret!!)
