I’m always drawn to places and objects that carry their stories on the surface—faded paint, rust, old signage that’s seen better days. This scene felt like a small time capsule from another era, still standing in the middle of the modern rush.

A quiet moment to close out the week.

This scene in the mountains has a different kind of stillness than the desert—soft light, layered greens, and the sound of water or wind instead of open silence. I love having both environments in my work: the rugged, sun‑baked expanses and these cooler, sheltered places that feel like a pause.

When you need to reset, are you more drawn to wide open spaces or tucked‑away, shaded spots?

A quick look at how I think about light and form in the desert.

In this Valley of Fire image, I waited for the light to slide across the rock just enough to carve out those ridges and curves. The warm glow brings out the reds and oranges, while the shadows give the scene depth and structure. That balance between glow and shadow is what makes the rocks feel almost alive.

Next time you’re out in a rocky landscape—even if it’s just a roadside stop—try watching how the light shifts over the surfaces. It’s like seeing the landscape breathe.

Zooming in on the details that usually get overlooked.

This close-up comes from a larger desert scene, but I love how, on its own, it becomes its own center piece—some much texture, light, and shadow. The desert is full of these small stories: weathered surfaces, tiny fractures, and quiet patterns in living and non living things.

Are you someone who notices these little textures in nature, or do you tend to take in the big view first?

Starting the week with one of my favorite views: Lake Mead Horizon.

I captured this scene drawn to the quiet stretch between water and sky—the kind of space that makes everything else feel a little smaller and more manageable. The soft gradation of light across the lake is exactly what I love about desert water: it feels both fragile and powerful at the same time.
