It’s better up here, where you almost can’t tell humans have interfered.

The Hours

Once there was a time when time was so spacious
each day unspooled in borderless hours

while I lay abed or sat looking out high windows
toward white-capped peaks or over a tropical sea

that swept its coral cove stones back and forth—windows
where morning light poured through screenless louvers

to strew spotless swatches across bare wooden foors;
when a summer wind, sounding like water fall,

splashed leafy calligraphies and honeys of sunsets over
pictureless walls. Weeks glided by just watching

the day slowly circle the room and fade away as the blue hour rose
and he came home. A time I was so unfinished

I could imagine anything.
