It’s Install Week here at Leica Gallery Boston! We’re so excited to begin preparations for our new exhibition Days Go By… featuring Sara Messinger and Adali Schell which will open to the public this Friday with an opening reception from 6-8PM.

Across opposite coasts, both photographers document this period of transition within the landscape of their respective homes—New York and Los Angeles. Messinger follows a group of teenagers through public parks and other spaces outside of school or home, where, unencumbered, they explore, experiment, and socialize. Schell diaristically documents this time in his life, focusing on the car as a space for independence, autonomy, and connection.

Though their photographs are distinct, both Messinger’s and Schell’s images are enmeshed in their own experiences. Here, the photograph becomes a means for understanding oneself, a self-portrait of sorts. Together, they build a tender reverence for the intimacy and uncertainty that comes with growing up.

Happening today— from 12-2PM join Leica Gallery Boston for a conversation with Caleb Stein about his practice and new publication ‘Down by the Hudson’

‘Down by the Hudson’ presents over a decade of summers Caleb Stein spent photographing a creek in Poughkeepsie, New York. Since 2013, Stein has returned to the same stretch of water each year, observing the recurring rhythms of friendship, gathering, and care that define this communal space.

Caleb Stein is a multimedia artist currently based in the U.S. His conceptual, documentary work often takes the form of photographic installations, multi-channel video works, and artist books that engage with questions around the collective, community, and the relationship between photography, perception, and memory.

Leica Gallery Boston is excited to present our upcoming exhibition Days Go By… featuring Sara Messinger sara messinger שרה and Adali Schell Adali Schell which brings into conversation two projects that explore the fleeting moments between adolescence and adulthood.

Did you know— our 10th anniversary exhibition ‘Community Garden,’ features work from four emerging local photographers. Today we’ll highlight one of those artists, AbdoulNasser Mika.

Abdoul comes from a community in Boston that is an amalgam of the African diaspora bounded by poverty, a desire to survive, and dreams of a better future. A unique and colorful culture lies in this community which heavily influences his work. He combines his passion for anthropology with photography to highlight issues in his community, with the hopes of finding solutions.

Visit the gallery to see Abdoul’s prints and more in Community Garden, our exhibition celebrating the 10th anniversary of Leica Store & Gallery Boston.

On Saturday, October 3rd from 12-2PM, join Leica Gallery Boston for a conversation with Caleb Stein about his practice and new publication ‘Down by the Hudson’

What began as documentation gradually became a lyrical and tender ode to the freedom and edenic sense of community the place elicits. Featured in the publication are written contributions from Amitava Kumar, Anita N. Bateman, Matt Carey-Williams, and Daniel Wolff.

Caleb Stein is a multimedia artist currently based in the U.S. His conceptual, documentary work often takes the form of photographic installations, multi-channel video works, and artist books that engage with questions around the collective, community, and the relationship between photography, perception, and memory.

“My relationship with Leica has only been nurturing, creative, and a platform to voice the stories of my subjects, community and the industry as a whole… I am thankful that I have earned the respect of peers without compromising my personhood or authentic storytelling, and thank the Leica curators for continuing to invest in the minds, art, and stories of the next generation of photographers.” —Eva Woolridge
