a wonderful night.

incredibly grateful for everyone who came and supported .jpeg and I tonight at our book launch. I’m going to sleep with a full heart and still smiling.

especially my dad who drove 4+ hours after work to be there. who rallied through a night at the bar despite the loud atmosphere that definitely did not coincide with his hearing. off to sleep before a wild weekend ahead.

a daughter.
a little girl who stood alongside her mother and family in yesterday’s protest. something hit the pit of my stomach when I saw her. not tall enough to peek over the fence yet she stood there, a young black girl amongst the thousands of other protesters. tucked away in a small patch of grass beneath a tree protected from the crowds by a fence she peered through. I couldn’t help but think of the time my sisters and I marched through the neighborhood, forming our own parade with our stuffed animals and pool noodles. marching as we chanted silly songs and giggled. it took me until taking this photo to think back to that time and realize the privilege in something that simple. I am biracial but the biggest frustration I’ve faced is questions about my name. that day I marched with my sisters freely without an understanding of the reality of this nation. without the awareness that yesterday’s march was to protect the future of her and other black boys and girls who don’t have a barrier to protect them from the a system built to oppress them.

A Monday.
that dresses up as a Saturday once a year. a day that we all anticipate. like the nerves and excitement we had with our first kiss. for some, yesterday may have been their very first and for others a rekindling of crazy, passionate love.
but with the love for this sport, we are taught to be patient. we face heartbreak and challenges from things that we cannot control.
with this patience, the marathon course kept quiet yesterday. on a day that it usually sings at the top of its lungs. patiently waiting for the right time serenade us and kiss the roses red cheeks of the thousands among it.
so as we wait, I’ll share with you a few things I found along the course that made a dreary Monday feel more like a Saturday. or at least a Friday... @ Boston Marathon

In light of everything going on, I’ve updated my website and will being selling prints. As you may know, artists and freelancers faced immediate loss of income due to COVID-19 and it is still uncertain when we will be working again or receive aid. While we’re all cooped up, looking at our homes and wondering how we can revamp them, please consider checking out prints and seeing if anything tickles your fancy. 10% of all profits will be donated to the artist relief fund!

a cabin.
tucked away amongst the trees.
a place to let your thoughts wander.
drifting into a harmonious state. soaking in the pitter patter.
humming along
to the howling winds.
taking yourself away.

a feeling.
of pressure. that I’ve been pushing on myself lately. with a lot of things unknown and still up in the air as a freelancer I’ve found that I’ve placed a burden on myself that I NEED to be photographing and documenting this moment in time. yet, I found that that was actually the exact opposite of what I needed.
what I did need was to allow time to process. talk through things, check in with loved ones, do other things that bring joy. naturally, my camera has inched back into my hand over the past few weeks. but instead of taking photos for other people right now, I’m doing so just for myself. and might I say, it’s a nice change of scenery.
