An icon of mid-century modernism, the Stillman Cottage masterfully blends architecture and nature.

Designed for Rufus and Leslie Stillman, longtime patrons of Breuer, the home is situated on a 10-acre plot surrounded by 70 acres of land trust, providing a serene, unspoiled natural setting.

This timeless retreat demonstrates Breuer’s vision of creating architecture that harmonizes with its surroundings while addressing modern needs.

Historical Highlights:
• Elevated on wooden stilts, creating a floating effect above the landscape.
• Features large windows and cantilevered porches for seamless indoor-outdoor living.
• Constructed with Breuer’s signature geometric forms and natural materials.
• Expanded posthumously by Breuer’s firm to include a pavilion with a master bedroom, great room, and porches.
• Once served as a political campaign headquarters.

This year’s jury - comprised of Randi Hopkins, Anna Feder and Louis Chude-Sokei - met shortly before the holidays to choose our next round of artists for 2022!

A huge THANK YOU goes to these three for their time and expertise which helped make the selection process go exceptionally smoothly! It was such a pleasure working with them.

🥁 Cue the drumroll... This year’s winners are...

• Stratton Coffman!
• Heather Kapplow!

They, along with Liu Wa (who had to postpone from last year) will be creating and presenting their proposed projects within the residency during 2022. During the next few weeks we’ll share more about them and their ideas, and give you something to look forward to later in the year.
