An icon of mid-century modernism, the Stillman Cottage masterfully blends architecture and nature.
Designed for Rufus and Leslie Stillman, longtime patrons of Breuer, the home is situated on a 10-acre plot surrounded by 70 acres of land trust, providing a serene, unspoiled natural setting.
This timeless retreat demonstrates Breuer’s vision of creating architecture that harmonizes with its surroundings while addressing modern needs.
Historical Highlights:
• Elevated on wooden stilts, creating a floating effect above the landscape.
• Features large windows and cantilevered porches for seamless indoor-outdoor living.
• Constructed with Breuer’s signature geometric forms and natural materials.
• Expanded posthumously by Breuer’s firm to include a pavilion with a master bedroom, great room, and porches.
• Once served as a political campaign headquarters.
