New work! 🎉Continuing the beach theme with a new print in the Beach Days series. I photographed this image on Ilha da Culatra, one of the barrier islands outside Olhão, Portugal, which I discovered on a trip with SABINO BOAT TOURS (thank you guys!). There’s a fairly long walk from the harbor across the island to the beach, and I arrived just as the tide was coming in, which at first I was a bit bummed about, but it actually turned out to be perfect timing! People had moved further up on the beach, out of reach of the waves, and I was able to get this clean and minimal shot of just the umbrellas and their shadows. As soon as I saw it, I knew it had to be a print! 😀 This is Beach Days No. 10

I hope you had a great long weekend! It’s been cloudy and quite rainy here, not so fun for those who had a beach weekend planned, but good for us, since we’re busy packing and organizing and getting ready for our annual migration overseas. 🙂

It’s so interesting to me how the feeling of the light is so different in different places. There’s something about it in Portugal that has a nostalgic, timeless, sometimes retro, feel. I often look at photos I take there and think that it almost looks like I added a vintage filter, but I didn’t. I don’t know why that is, but I love it!

Happy Monday! Starting the week with another new print in the Bird collection. I photographed this image on a calm and peaceful April morning with dreamy sunlight filtered through thin clouds. There were a few eiders a short distance from the beach, and as I was standing there composing my image, a seagull came gliding by just above the surface of the water and added the perfect final touch! 🙂 This is a square print and it comes framed or unframed in sizes from small to large.

My favorite little Piping Plovers for Endangered Species Day. 💕 These are from a few years back, I don’t have any good shots of them from this year yet. Even though the numbers have increased (1,178 breeding pairs in MA 2023 compared to 140 in 1986!), they are still listed as threatened both on the Massachusetts and Federal Endangered Species Lists. But those are encouraging stats!
