Beautiful morning yesterday with ever-changing scenery as the remnants of storm Isaias came closer and closer. The forecast said overcast all day, so it was a nice surprise to wake up to a bit of sunshine before the clouds took over.

Happy World Migratory Bird Day! I was photographing at Wingaersheek beach in on a foggy fall afternoon when large flocks of birds suddenly came flying overhead. I loved the formations of the flocks, as well as the silhouette of each bird - it was like an art installation in the sky.

The birds turned out to be double-crested cormorants. They migrate south for the winter and the cormorants you see up here during the colder months are great cormorants. I actually didn’t even know they migrate since you see cormorants year round here, and I had just assumed it was the same kind. So it was a cool sight and I learned something new! 😃

Back on Cape Ann after four months in Europe and it feels good to be here again! We’ve spent this first week getting things out of storage and getting settled, and I’ve started chipping away on my very long to-do list for this fall. I’m especially happy to be reunited with my photo printer, there’s nothing like seeing your images on paper. 😃 I have a few new beach prints in the works that I’m really excited about, hopefully I’ll be able to share them in the next few weeks!

New work! 🎉 I had pictured this image in my mind for several years: an overcast morning with calm water and a dolphin in midair. I kept trying and trying, but things never worked out the right way. Either it wasn’t overcast, the water was too rough, or I got a shot too late when the dolphin was already under water again. But on a cloudy morning outside Olhão last year, it finally all came together.

New work! 🎉 This is the other new print in the Ocean collection, photographed on Desert Island, one of the barrier islands in the Ria Formosa National Park, which I visited with .

It was our last stop on the trip, and the tide was coming in with big, thundering waves that filled the air with a thick salt haze, and that amazing smell of the ocean. The water was a pale, almost colorless blue, that shifted into sea glass green in the breaking waves, and the filtered sunshine added such a dreamy feel. My favorite everything! 💙

This print comes framed and unframed in sizes up to large and oversized.
