I would never have thought to place the interiors of an early 20th century Episcopal church in a formerly Irish neighborhood alongside a community Bharatanatyam performance in New York City. Yet it was a joy to capture these moments, as the warm midsummer evening light streamed through colorful stained-glass windows and embraced the dancers in vibrant, saturated hues. Dark wooden rafters and Gothic arches framed human profiles as they transformed into fearless gods, jealous lovers, and steadfast friends. For a brief evening, architecture, light, and dance seemed to belong to the same story.

Sharing a glimpse from the recent Gitanjali Dance Recital and Reunion, where dancers came together to celebrate the joy of learning, performing, and reconnecting with founder, teacher, and choreographer Malini Srinivasan.

NYC—I’ll see you again soon.
