3 Reasons Couples Love In-Home Engagement Sessions

Your engagement session doesn't have to happen outdoors or in a specific engagement worthy location. Sometimes, the most meaningful place to document your love story is right at home. My first time capturing this kind of session was with MJ and James, they asked to do a session of them making pasta in their place that they were moving from a few weeks after this session.

So here's why an at-home session is so fun:

✨ It's personal. Your home is part of your story, which makes the photos feel uniquely you.
☕ It's comfortable. No worrying about what to do in front of the camera. I can capture you making coffee, cooking together, dancing in the kitchen, cuddling on the couch, or simply enjoying being together.
🤍 It's real. Some of my favorite photos come from the in-between moments when you're relaxed, laughing, and completely yourselves.

If the idea of an engagement session feels a little intimidating, an in-home session might be exactly what you're looking for. Save this for when you're planning your session!

Happy third anniversary to Caitlin and Sam!! This was such a gorgeous wedding day and fun fact, this was my first sunny day wedding that year haha 🤣 It was a year of a lot of weekend rainy days, so I remember being so excited for them to have sunshine on their wedding day.

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is getting to grow alongside my clients.

I first met these two when I had the honor of photographing their wedding day, then came an anniversary session the following year at Boston University (where they met, and also coincidentally where I went to school too), followed by the sweetest spring portrait session after they welcomed their beautiful baby girl into the world. 🌸

Now, I'll be seeing this wonderful family again this fall for another family session, and I couldn't be more excited. Watching families grow and getting to document each new chapter is such a gift. These photos become part of your family's story, and it's an honor that you trust me to preserve those memories year after year.

Thank you to all of my incredible couples and families who continue to invite me back as your lives grow and change. It means more to me than you'll ever know, and makes my job the best in the world.

The wedding day is made up of so many thoughtful little details—and I believe they deserve their moment.

One of my favorite ways to begin a wedding day is by photographing all of the carefully chosen pieces that help tell your story: your dress, shoes, tie, jewelry, invitations, perfume, heirlooms, and all the little finishing touches.

Not only is it a calm way to ease into the day before all the excitement begins, but it's also a chance to preserve the details you've spent months choosing. These aren't just accessories—they're part of your story, and years from now, you'll love looking back on them just as much as the big moments.

So when I arrive on your wedding morning, you'll usually find me starting with these beautiful details before we dive into the rest of the day.

Myth: “We’re so awkward in front of the camera.” 😅

Reality: Almost every couple tells me this before their session—and almost every couple ends up saying, “That was actually so much fun!”

Here’s how I help you feel comfortable:

- I guide you with natural movement instead of stiff poses (walking, dancing, cuddling, twirling—you’ll never be left wondering what to do with your hands).
- I keep the mood light with conversation, silly prompts, and the occasional joke—even if it’s at my own expense.
- I take the time to get to know you before your session, so by the time we’re shooting, it feels more like hanging out than being in front of a camera.

And here’s a little secret: the magic usually doesn’t happen in the first five minutes. The best photos come once you’ve settled in, forgotten about the camera, and your personalities naturally shine through.

So if you’re worried about being “awkward,” don’t be. That’s my job to help with—and I promise, you’ve got this!!

Not sure what to wear for your engagement session? I've got you covered with all of the outfit inspiration.

I'm sharing some of my favorite outfit ideas for every season—starting with summer (because I have a few engagement sessions coming up next month 😉), followed by fall, winter, and spring. Neutrals always fare well no matter the season, in the spring little pops of color can be fun, and in the fall and winter fashionable coats are always a win.

The right outfits can make such a difference in how your photos feel, because when you are comfortable and feeling yourself in your clothing, your confidence shines through the images. I hope this gives you some inspiration as you start planning for your session. Save this post for later and send it to your partner if you like any of the inspiration ideas :)

Which season's outfits are your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

It’s my birthday, another year around the sun, the last year of this decade for me so enjoying it before moving on to the next one. It was a year of highs and lows and just recalibrating to always trust my gut, allowing myself to be vulnerable with friends and family, and reminding myself to take little breaks from being a business owner and mama because it does no one good pouring from an empty cup. Here’s to a great last year of my thirties 😊

❤️ 🎉

A well-planned wedding timeline = stress-free photos. I always like to chat with my couples after they complete my wedding day questionnaire about a month before their wedding day on timing for the day. Obviously every wedding is different, different amount of people in families, wedding party, how many couple’s portraits you want, and how much photo coverage of getting ready you want. So those factors will change things but this is generally what I recommend before we tweak based on those things.

My go-to photography timeline:
• Getting ready: 1–2 hours
• First look and couple's portraits: 30 minutes
• Family and wedding party portraits: 1.5 hours
• Golden hour portraits: 15–20 minutes

Building in enough time for each part of the day helps everything flow smoothly, keeps your wedding day more relaxed, and gives us the chance to capture beautiful, natural moments you will love forever.
