Ever look around at people’s Headshots and realize they all look strangely similar?? It’s because they are. Most Headshot Photographers take this one course and replicate that look and business model. I actually took it myself, but I realized that is wasn’t my style AT ALL. I’m less fussy about my lighting, and I shoot intuitively. I also shoot like 30 - 50 images to get my shot. I’ve seen some that take like 1,000+ photos to get one or two shots. THAT BE CRAZY to me!
The reason I’m writing this isn’t to crap on anyone’s game or call out photographers, but to educate the consumer out there looking for a Headshot and wondering why they’re paying more for a Headshot that’s nearly identical to anyone else’s. It always comes down to the experience you have as a customer and how the photographer treats you. That is ultimately how I get my shots the way I do. I treat my customers like a friend that I’ve known forever and make them comfortable to be whoever and what ever they want to be. I don’t shove a template on them that is as outdated as the traditional headshot itself and tell them this is who they need to be. Wear what you feel like is a true representation of yourself, and let that authentic person out. At the end of the day, that’s who that person sees, not what some other person said when they perpetuated this “traditional headshot” format. Be honest, be unique, be human!
