One hummingbird and a sea of lotus flowers! Felt like I was surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of zen moments on Sunday, so stunning and peaceful.

Once again, thank you, Suzanne for getting me outside on such a beautiful day when all I wanted to do was sleep in..it was so worth it! πŸ˜ƒ

I just love photographing these guys, their personalities are so sweet and dang, they are fast!

At one point one came right up to my face and hovered looking straight at me. Not sure if we had a moment of spiritual reckoning or a reckoning of, 'Wait a minute, you're neither a bug or nectar!'🀣

This is so sad! You brought so much joy and awareness to the world, just raised your two eaglets along with Shadow and helped save your waterfront forest in Big Bear Valley for generations to come.

You will be forever loved and remembered. Sending so much love and strength to Shadow and your babies. πŸ’•

Patient Update: Bald Eagle 26-519

It is with profound sadness that we share that Patient 26-519 passed away in the early hours of this morning, following more than three weeks of intensive medical care.

Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists. She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit.

Throughout her time at Ojai Raptor Center, every decision was guided by the available medical evidence, her welfare, and our responsibility to do what was in her best interest.

Her remains have been transferred into the care of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).

We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey, hoped alongside us, prayed for her, and supported the people caring for her.

Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her.

We ask for patience and kindness as our staff process this loss. We are working closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and will provide a more comprehensive statement including additional information on her treatments and test results.

To protect our staff and community during this difficult time, comments on this post have been turned off.

To everyone who cared about Patient 26-519, thank you. Thank you for your messages, your prayers, your encouragement, and for standing beside our team throughout these past weeks. We are deeply grateful for the way Patient 26-519 brought people together through a shared love of wildlife.

I remember many years ago when I saw a great blue heron for the first time, or possibly the first time I actually started noticing them, it was in a location that was seemingly impossible to get a decent shot and I also didn't know much about cameras and lighting like I do today.

I spoke to it and told it that was fine, thanks for making me aware of you, someday I will get amazing photos of others just like you. And I have since gotten many photos, but yesterday this one was striking poses as if to say, 'I'm the one you've really been waiting for!' πŸ˜„

I've had so many people ask me over the years how I am able to do wildlife photography. Patience is always my answer. I am very, very patient with wildlife. My experience is on their terms, not mine. I am always excited for my next find and knowing it may take patience before I find it, it's all good! If nothing else, it got me outside for the day, after all, nature is so healing and peaceful, which is the ultimate benefit of going out at all.

Often times, when I go looking for something specific, I end up discovering something else altogether and it's either just as exciting or sometimes even more so because it was completely unexpected. And that is why I love it so much! Yesterday, I went out for hummingbirds and this is who I ended up with. πŸ₯°

Thanks, Suzanne for driving us by the area, what a great day!

I am having so much fun going through these photos! Here is the third set. Mind you, I have no idea how many 'sets' I'll actually end up with.

These guys were cracking me up so much with their constant silly antics that my blind mates can absolutely attest to the fact that I couldn't stop giggling the entire time, haha! 🀣
