“Will you pose us at all?”
Is a question that’s come up a lot on discovery calls recently, and so...
Short answer: yes.
Long answer (bc there’s always a long answer with ya girl🤭):
When I say I’m a documentary photographer, I don’t mean I’m gonna show up on your wedding day, say absolutely nothing, and lurk in the corner with a camera, bc… weird!!
Yes, candid and natural will always be my priority. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to leave you hanging. 🕺
For family photos, I’m absolutely going to guide people where they need to go and find the best light.
For portraits, I am going to give you direction. I’m probably going to have you walk together. Maybe run if you’re down. Squisshhhhhh (ifykyk). 🤭 Take a breath. Hang out.
Because the best documentary photographers know when to step in, and they know when to step back.
So when you need guidance, reassurance, or a little direction, I gotchu!
But when you’re laughing with your friends, hugging your grandma after the ceremony, or having a quiet moment with your partner, I’m stepping back and letting it unfold.
The magic isn’t in never stepping in. And it’s not in directing every second of your day either.
It’s in knowing the difference.
Knowing when you need support, and knowing when a moment is already perfect exactly as it is. 🫶🏼🥰
