Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving!

This photo was taken at Thanksgiving 2007. Every year we celebrate with Peter’s family and his adopted siblings—survivors of the Khmer Rouge. The day is a steady loop of “How do you make your squash?” “Is the turkey ready?” "Is the curried chicken curry heated up?" “Are we doing a ham this year?” Cooking and eating together reminds us how lucky we are to be together, to share stories, and to sit around a full table.

Family Reunion will be on exhibit in the juried exhibition Gathering Place I A Family Album at the Griffin Museum satellite gallery at the Jenks Center in Wi******er MA Through January 3rd. The opening is on December 10th 2-4.

Natale and his Chianina Oxen is a photo from of my series Mezzadria in Tuscany, which explores the end of a Tuscan tradition for centuries. In exchange for living in the villa, and working the land, the farmer paid the proprietor in olive oil and red wine. For three months I visited and photographed Natale, his brother Cesare, and their families, and soon became part of their extended families capturing their everyday lives. I am currently editing a book of this work.

In 1994, Smithsonian Magazine assigned me to photograph portraits and fair events for a cover story about oxen.

Having photographed Natale a few years before, I sold this as a stock photo to be included in the article. The best part was receiving letters from readers expressing their admiration of my photo.

I am a photographer who captures the relationships between people and place. My work focuses on St. George, a fishing village in Canada, where I document the fading summer days and the monumental changes caused by climate change and globalization. Through my work, I aim to reflect the collective memory of the people of St. George, to capture these fading summer days, and to document the monumental changes through a series of small, intimate moments of daily life.
