Let’s dive into the backyard and patio spaces that so many of us call our own here in the States.

True words: Growing up in India, we never had to use “Patio” or “Backyard” because we lived in a 3-story house with a dedicated rooftop terrace. We also had a beautiful garden, but never once did we consider that space part of our living area. After moving to the States, I have always lived in condos, so I did not take into account using that space for living when we bought this home.

But after spending half the year buried in snow and cold, those precious months of outdoor living suddenly feel like a treasure.

When we first arrived, tangled trees had taken over and left the once-beautiful bluestone patio in ruins. We quickly set to work, laying new pavers and dreaming up possibilities. Even with the coziest furniture, we soon learned that without shade, the space would sit empty on sunny days. Adding a pergola transformed everything, giving us a place to gather, cook, and relax.

In a house like ours, the list of projects never really ends. Still, we now have a backyard oasis where afternoon tea, wine and cheese, and lively BBQs have become our favorite rituals.

Inside Forbes Walled Garden in .uk.

When you are the ‘annoying camera person’ who stops every minute and clicks, - you bring the whole family to a beautiful secluded area of the hotel to do a family photo shoot for an hour (I make sure one hotel we pick has a historical garden like this to photograph).

Our initial plan was to stay in St. Andrews and explore central Scotland, but the week we wanted to go was booked 8 months in advance, and we couldn’t find a hotel. So, we stayed in Stirling and did a day trip there!

I am so glad we did this.
