My dear friend and longtime collaborator, ✨

The way they invite me into exploration by just showing up and being present is unlike any other relationship I have. When we get together we ask - “what is stirring in you friend?” We come to the inklings of expansion and contraction, and then just let go and be. They move, I witness. I move, they respond.
This winter we went to christen my new studio space in Lansing with a session where we showed up in the cold to play. I worked with film and digital, flying on the unseen, till the snow demanded we leave before we got stuck. We slid bravely up the driveway, and kindled up new stories for the weekend. I love you Syd x

The brief was to place ourselves in the frame with those we love. January was the perfect month to explore the way our family weaves about in winter. Undercurrents of discomfort at being in the photos myself gave way to gratitude in documenting the sweetness of our lives - that which we must hold up to the light more than ever in what can feel like the darkest of times.

I recently wrote a song about our 21 year old marriage. Here are the opening lines that come together with this project for me so beautifully:

“There is a rhythm in our days
I like the way we pace, in and out
Filling the corners of each room

I know what’s yours, I know what’s mine
We give and take each other’s time, and the boys still
Want to come close, and stay in tune”

Rolls of film pass back and forth, witness to our hibernating, our slow walking, our bids to stay warm and do nothing much. When we do venture out, I love the colors of winter here most of all.

Words evade me when I return to this session. It was so still, so peaceful, a gloaming as pregnant as Brianna spilling over with gold. Nathaniel knelt in the grass with tears at the sight of her. How can words speak of this? The holiness of this moment?

A winter engagement session of my dreams with lovely Kat & Dylan ❄️✨
It was freezing cold icy rain in Boone, so we sauntered down to the lovely for a cozy exploration of light, warmth, and connection.

Today I send that warmth, light and connection to all as we tune into the gifts of Winter Solstice!

I’ve been without a dedicated studio space for a while now, and I’ve felt it.
Not just in the logistical sense (though yes, that too) - but in the way my creative spirit has been longing for a place to simply explore. To make work that’s just for me. To play without a brief, to experiment without an audience, to follow curiosity wherever it leads.

That’s changing in 2026.

I’m developing some studio spaces again - one in the High Country where I can root my practice, develop personal work and creative experiments, and invite community collaboration and development, alongside two amazing artists that I’m so excited to grow alongside. The second space in Charlotte will be focused on multi-media collaboration and soulful, expansive client focused work. Both spaces are an absolute dream in completely different ways.

So here we are. A new threshold. New studios taking shape. Work unfolding.

Late November Two intentional souls River salamander
and the waking of winter

Nikalina & Travis reached out last minute for a couple’s session, and what unfolded was exactly the kind of co-creation I live for - unhurried, collaborative, guided by the landscape and the light. Attentive to each other, to the woods, to the quiet magic of that strange threshold between late Autumn and early winter. Flora and fauna were our collaborators, especially as Nikalina was willing to place her feet in the river - a wee salamander came to say hello!

This is the kind and good work of presence. Thank you Nikalina & Travis for sharing yourselves with me one fine cold evening last month. The time is deeply cherished 🙏

Oh hello! It’s me, witnessed through a lovely old tintype in the eyes, hands and skill of my friend ✨ Here’s something you may not know about me:
I’m a grief counselor - I see all thresholds of life as sacred invitations to knowing more about love, ourselves, our capacity for EVERYTHING. Grief and loss are painful teachers of the fullness of what it means to be human. I hold stories of death alongside life, making it all more vibrant. I see photography as an act of bearing witness - not taking, capturing or shooting. But holding, seeing, handling with care - reflecting our humanity. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bear witness in so many powerful ways in this life!
