Light and Armour Photography I am a storytelling photographer for the family experience + adventurous couples. Document your now. I am a wife, mom of three, and believer in Christ.

I am a friend to chaos and can keep up with any adventure. However, I welcome stillness when a season calls for it. I love to create magic in the ordinary. Traveling and exploring new locations bring joy to me. I enjoy a plan, but love the thrill of being spontaneous!

A caption that’s completely unrelated to these photos -
-I miss the location feature on IG places, I don’t want to provide my constant location and give us a map back?!
-Why is there an algorithm option now where you’re feeding it what you want to see - which in theory is cool, but is it?
-Instants??? Is this like a Snapchat for Instagram?

Nothing is more humbling than new app features and this is where my millennial is showing. 🫣

To be a mother is to continually meet new parts of yourself. Seasons of transition; an almost constant reintroduction to what makes you, y o u. Finding your footing with what can feel like a completely new and foreign identity.

All the while raising a tiny human. Watching with wonder, curiously day dreaming who our child / children will become. Pulling ourselves to be present and drinking up each new milestone and development. Watching their personalities bloom, watching them find their footing as their own person, in their own identity.

To be a mom, is to gain appreciation and the value of time. How time both stands still and passes oh so effortlessly. The evidence of time passing becomes blissfully - and painfully - obvious as our kids age.

It’s a gift to be a mom or a motherly figure to the kids in our lives. It’s a treasure to know how we’re held in the same regard in the hearts to who mothered us.

Happy Mother’s Day. 🌼

“When you hear hoof beats, think Zebra.” 🦓

The zebra is the symbol for rare disease awareness, and today, on Rare Disease Day, we show our stripes in honor of the 1 in 10 Americans living with a rare disease. It’s a reminder that even if you can’t see it, these diagnoses shape lives in ways most will never understand.

This is the fourth annual Light and Armour Photography rare disease event, and it has been an absolute honor to connect with families, photograph incredible kids, and share their stories. 🤍 My son Jude was diagnosed with his rare disease January 2020, and it will forever shape our life. You don’t know what you don’t know, and now that I know this little sliver of the world - I can’t not share and document these beautiful babies.

70% of rare diseases begin in childhood. Life looks different when your days revolve around medical routines, therapies, and appointments—all in the pursuit of a better quality of life for your child. Often, photography is the last thing on a family’s mind. That’s why this project means so much to me. These moments matter. Document your now. 🤍

5 years ago - almost to the date, I set out on a solo adventure along the North Carolina coast with incredible sessions on the books.

It’s not lost on me the time and commitment each of you make when choosing to adventure! This mama drove over 4 hours (one way) to meet me here. (Psst I also made that same drive). 🕺Granted, adventures can happen in our back yard, but when fellow mamas have that itch to see the world and share that with their kids… it’s so special that I’m trusted to document that as your photographer.

Jockey’s Ridge state park was on my NC bucket list; it’s the tallest living sand dune on the east coast. It was a pretty spectacular sight. I included a few landscape photos at the end and *gasp* even an iPhone photo. Even though it was 5 years ago, I remember that night so clearly.

It was a beautiful, *freezing* February sunset where dreams were actualized. If you’re just starting out - remember to celebrate the life you’re creating. Count each and every blessing. ✨ So much growth has happened since that night 5 years ago, but looking at what I photographed, I have immense pride. 🥹💕

Not that I needed to flex any creative muscles during this DREAM Italian family session, but here’s why perspective matters. This family pretty much stayed in the spot for this set of photos - and look how different the composition becomes and how the light is interpreted.

Composition, light, perspective — decisions while on scene at your session, play a huge, deciding factor on how your photos will be interpreted. Light and airy? Dark and moody? Vibrant? Muted? Want both? Favor one?

» As a photographer, our approach greatly impacts the style we become. A preset (editing) cant fix an answer we created at the session; our sessions need to be answering our questions before we are asking them while editing.
» As a client, noticing how your photographer approaches a session can be enlightening to your final product. Notice what your photographer is drawn too in their portfolio; does this align with the style you actually love? Or is it a style you like because it’s on a curated feed? (Both can be true)

Anyways. Sometimes less is more. This property was STUNNING and we did make the most of it - but, even if we only stayed here, it would have been enough. 💕
