“Legends of Faith
Three of the Greatest Man of Faith”

When I look through the Word of God, there are three lives that continually encourage me when I think about facing impossible circumstances:
NOAH • JOB • ABRAHAM
•Three men.
•Three different journeys.
•Three different trials.
But one thing connects them all:
THEY TRUSTED GOD.
And what makes their stories even more powerful is when they lived.
Noah, Job, and Abraham lived in the ancient world before the Law of Moses was given at Mount Sinai.
•They were not living under the Mosaic covenant.
•They did not have the completed Scriptures we have today.
•They did not know the fullness of the revelation of Jesus Christ that we now have.
•They had not seen Calvary.
•They had not experienced the resurrection.
•They had not received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit described in Acts 2.
And yet… THEY BELIEVED GOD.
🕊️ NOAH — FAITH THAT WALKS WITH GOD
Genesis 6:9 describes Noah as a צַדִּיק — tzaddiq, meaning righteous, and says that Noah “walked with God.”
That word walked comes from the Hebrew הָלַךְ — halak, meaning to walk, go, move, conduct oneself, or live. -
In the biblical Hebrew way of thinking, walking isn’t merely about movement.
Your walk describes the direction of your life.
Noah didn’t simply say he believed God.
His life demonstrated that he believed God.
God told Noah to build an ark because judgment was coming.
But Noah had never seen anything like the flood God was describing.
He had no visible evidence.
Noah had a Word from God.
And that Word was enough.
Hebrews 11:7 tells us that Noah acted by faith concerning things that had not yet been seen.
Think about that.
•Noah built before the rain.
•He obeyed before he saw.
•He worked before there was evidence.
•He trusted God’s Word when the world around him had every reason to doubt it.
That’s faith.
Faith isn’t always having evidence in your hands.
Sometimes faith is having God’s Word in your heart and continuing to obey when nothing around you makes sense.
🔥 JOB — FAITH WHEN YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND
Then we come to Job.
Job’s story is different.
Noah was warned about what was coming.
Job wasn’t.
Job lost his possessions.
•He lost his children.
•He lost his health.
•He lost the support and understanding of those around him.
And yet Job continued to wrestle with God.
This is important when we understand the biblical culture.
Biblical faith doesn’t mean you never cry.
It doesn’t mean you never ask questions.
It doesn’t mean you never experience grief.
•Job cried.�•Job questioned.�•Job mourned.
•Job wrestled.
But Job continued to seek God.
One Hebrew concept connected to faithfulness is:
אֱמוּנָה — EMUNAH
Emunah carries the idea of faithfulness, firmness, steadfastness, reliability, and trustworthiness.
Biblical faith isn’t simply saying:
“I believe God can fix this.”
Sometimes biblical faith says:
“I don’t understand why this is happening, but I still believe God is faithful.”
Job didn’t have the heavenly perspective that the reader has.
He didn’t know what was happening behind the scenes.
He didn’t know why everything was falling apart.
But he kept reaching toward God.
And sometimes the greatest expression of faith is not shouting:
“I understand!”
Sometimes it is whispering:
“God, I don’t understand—but I still trust You.”
🌿 ABRAHAM — FAITH THAT LEAVES THE FAMILIAR
Then there is Abraham.
Abraham’s story teaches us another dimension of faith.
God told him to leave his country, his relatives, and his father’s household.
Genesis 12:1 begins with the Hebrew phrase:
לֶךְ־לְךָ — LEKH-LEKHA
Often translated:
“Go forth.”
Literally, it carries the idea of “go for yourself” or “go to yourself.”
God was calling Abraham out of what was familiar and into something he couldn’t yet see.
And here’s what I love:
God didn’t give Abraham the entire map.
He gave him a promise.
Abraham had to walk one step at a time.
Genesis 15:6 says:
“And he believed in the LORD; and He counted it to him for righteousness.”
The Hebrew word translated “believed” is הֶאֱמִן — he’emin, from the root אָמַן — aman.
This is related to the word Amen.
The idea is connected with something being firm, trustworthy, dependable, and established.
Abraham wasn’t simply agreeing with God.
Abraham considered God trustworthy.
God said it.
Abraham believed it.
God promised it.
Abraham built his life around it.
✨ HERE’S WHAT ENCOURAGES ME
Think about these three men.
•Noah:
Before the rain came, he built.
•Abraham:
Before he saw the destination, he walked.
•Job:
When everything fell apart, he held onto God.
And all three lived before the fullness of God’s revelation that we have today.
•They didn’t have the New Testament.
•They didn’t know the name Jesus as we know it.
•They didn’t know the fullness of the New Covenant.
•They didn’t have the revelation of Calvary.
And yet… THEY TRUSTED GOD.
Now look at where we stand.
•We live on this side of the cross.
•We know that Jesus Christ came.
•We know He died.
•We know He shed His blood.
•We know He rose again.
•We have the written Word of God.
•We have the promise of the New Covenant.
And Jesus promised the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2 tells us about the outpouring of the Spirit of God.
WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN SO MUCH MORE REVELATION OF GOD’S PLAN.
So if Noah could trust God before the rain…
If Abraham could trust God before seeing the destination…
If Job could trust God while standing in the ashes of his life…
•WHY SHOULD WE GIVE UP?
•Why should we quit?
•Why should we walk away from God because we don’t understand what He’s doing?
•Why should we believe the enemy’s lie that God has forgotten us?
🙏 MAYBE YOU’RE IN A NOAH SEASON
•God has told you to build something, but nobody understands what you’re doing.
•Keep building.
•You may not see the rain yet.
•But if God spoke, obey Him.
🙏 MAYBE YOU’RE IN AN ABRAHAM SEASON
God is calling you out of something familiar.
•You don’t know where you’re going.
•You don’t know how it’s going to work.
•You don’t have the whole plan.
Keep walking.
•You don’t need the whole map.
•You just need enough faith to take the next step.
🙏 MAYBE YOU’RE IN A JOB SEASON
•You’re hurting.
•You’re confused.
•You’re asking God why.
•You don’t understand what He’s doing.
Keep trusting.
•You may not understand God’s plan.
But you can still trust God’s character.
🔥 HERE’S THE MESSAGE
• Noah teaches us:
OBEY GOD BEFORE YOU SEE THE RAIN.
• Abraham teaches us:
FOLLOW GOD BEFORE YOU SEE THE DESTINATION.
• Job teaches us:
TRUST GOD EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND THE PAIN.
Jesus teaches us something even greater:
GOD HAS MADE A WAY FOR US THROUGH HIS BLOOD.
•We aren’t trying to earn God’s love.
•We aren’t trying to earn salvation by our works.
•We stand under the grace of God through Jesus Christ.
And through Christ, we have the promise of the Holy Spirit.
So when life becomes difficult, remember:
•Noah had a promise.
•Abraham had a promise.
•Job held onto God through the pain.
And we have something they could only look forward to: JESUS CHRIST.
•We have the cross.
•We have the empty tomb.
•We have the Word.
•We have the promise of the Holy Spirit.
IF THEY COULD HOLD ON TO GOD WITH THE REVELATION THEY HAD, HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD WE HOLD ON TO HIM WITH THE REVELATION WE HAVE RECEIVED?
•Your situation may be difficult.
•Your future may be uncertain.
•Your prayers may seem unanswered.
But don’t confuse silence with absence.
God has not changed.
His character has not changed.
His faithfulness has not changed.
•KEEP WALKING.
•KEEP BELIEVING.
•KEEP OBEYING.
•KEEP TRUSTING.
Because the same God who carried Noah through the flood…
The same God who led Abraham into the promise…
The same God who met Job in his suffering…
IS STILL THE SAME GOD TODAY.
“For He who promised is faithful.” — Hebrews 10:23
🔥 DON’T GIVE UP ON GOD JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN’T SEE WHAT HE’S DOING.
YOU MAY NOT SEE THE RAIN YET.�YOU MAY NOT SEE THE DESTINATION YET.�YOU MAY NOT UNDERSTAND THE PAIN YET.
BUT GOD IS STILL FAITHFUL.
