Clearly the technical aspects are important, but that’s not what excites me. What inspires me is capturing real moments in time – a giggling daughter with her father, a mother watching over her new child, a rider connecting with her horse. Posed images certainly have their place, but I get such a thrill out of capturing those unplanned, organic moments between beings. That brief period in time whe
n my camera perfectly captures an instant of raw, honest emotion. These aren’t always happy moments, but they are moments that, once preserved in a photograph, immediately transport the viewer back to that time. Even in my bo***ir work, it is about that split second when a woman realises that she is sensual, powerful, alive… and that is translated into the images created through the camera lens. Every session is different and I never fully know what to expect. I love that. And I am so grateful that this is how I get to spend my days. The many hats I wear in life contribute to my photography. I am a woman, a mother, a wife, an equestrian. I’ve been passionate about animals for as long as I can remember. I recall being asked in school, “What is your dream when you grow up?” My answer… “I want to have a menagerie.” I am well on my way with a magnificent Ragdoll cat, one doting Ridgeback, a Golden pup, one obnoxious African Grey parrot and my partner in the arena, my Thoroughbred, Mannie. My kids could sometimes be classified as part of the menagerie. Being a mother of two small children keeps me running, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. My life is incredibly full… full of fur, full of laughs, full of love. I am so grateful to be living my life in the way I am… It makes me a better photographer and a better human being.
