the weddings people cannot stop talking about are usually the least traditional ones ✨

Not because they were the fanciest.
Not because they had the biggest budget.
Not because every single detail was “perfect.”
But because they actually felt PERSONAL.

The weddings guests remember forever are usually the ones where couples fully let themselves lean into who they are instead of trying to recreate a wedding they saw online somewhere.

The weddings with picnic blankets instead of ceremony chairs.

The weddings with sage ceremonies at sunset.

The weddings with medieval dress codes and giant cat cutouts and champagne b**g toasts.

The weddings where couples read private vows first because they wanted intimacy without the pressure of an audience.

The weddings where guests leave thinking:
“wait… you can DO that?”

THAT is the stuff people remember.

I think somewhere along the way the wedding industry convinced couples that perfection is what makes a wedding meaningful.

But after photographing so many weddings and elopements across the PNW and beyond, I can promise you this:

personality will always be more memorable than perfection.

Your wedding does not need to be traditional to be beautiful.

It does not need to make sense to everyone else.
It just needs to feel honest to the two of you.

Save this post for nontraditional wedding idea inspo ✨

And if you’re trying to plan a wedding that feels more intentional, personal, immersive, or unapologetically YOU instead of just checking boxes off a wedding checklist… hi. I’m very much here to help with that.

I think details deserve to be photographed the same way people do

Not just as flat lay checklists, but as little extensions of a person. Tiny clues about who they are, what they love, what kind of world they built around themselves for a day.

The books with bent pages. The lace catching sunlight. Perfume bottles sitting next to handwritten vows. The flowers starting to wilt from being carried around all day. The way a room feels before everyone arrives.

I’m always paying attention to atmosphere just as much as moments.

Because years from now, I don’t think people just want to remember what their wedding looked like.
I think they want to remember what it felt like to exist inside of it.

The colors. The textures. The quiet. The anticipation. The strange little in-between moments that would’ve disappeared if nobody noticed them.

Thank you for inviting me to this!

I think one of the biggest lies people have been sold about wedding and couples photos is that they need to be perfectly sharp, perfectly posed, perfectly curated to matter.

But memory itself is not perfect.

It’s movement.
It’s little flashes.
Wind in your hair.
Cold water on your feet.
The way someone reached for your hand without thinking.
The blur of laughing too hard.
The feeling of the sun disappearing while you try to stay in the moment just a little longer.

Some of my favorite images are the ones that feel the most human.

Not overly polished.
Not performative.
Just lived in.

I care a lot more about whether your photos feel like you than whether every strand of hair stayed in place the entire time.

And honestly? I think years from now that’s the kind of thing people actually hold onto.

One of the fastest ways to make your wedding feel more personal?

Stop choosing songs because they’re “wedding songs.”

Choose songs that sound like your relationship.

Your late night drives.
Your kitchen dance parties.
Your shared music taste.
Your weird little inside world together.

Your wedding playlist should feel like stepping into your relationship for a night.

Not like background music at a corporate holiday party

You can always tell when someone fully commits to the experience.

These soon-to-be newlyweds showed up ready to have fun, lean into the moment, climb around the mountains, and love their person loudly. And honestly? That energy changes everything.

Sun Valley showing off, trees everywhere, mountain air, and two people who clearly actually like being around each other. Which sounds obvious, but trust me… you can feel the difference.

The best sessions happen when you stop worrying about how you look and start paying attention to how it feels to be there together.

Your wedding or elopement is probably going to confuse someone

Maybe because you skipped the ballroom.
Maybe because there wasn’t a seating chart.
Maybe because you chose red rocks, lanterns, candles, ci**rs, and blue hour in the middle of the desert instead of doing what people expected.

And honestly?

That doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.

I think somewhere along the way, weddings became weirdly performative. Like every choice has to be explained, approved of, or easily digestible to everyone else watching.

But the couples whose days feel the most alive?
The ones people talk about years later?

They’re usually the ones who stopped asking:

“Will everyone else get it?”

And started asking:

“Does this actually feel like us?”

That shift changes everything ✨️

Because when your day is built around who you really are instead of what’s expected of you, people feel it.

Not because it’s perfect.
Not because it followed tradition.
But because it’s honest.

These two leaned all the way into themselves.
Their witchy little desert hearts.
Lantern light flickering against the rocks.
Candles melting into the sand.
Sharing ci**rs during blue hour with absolutely nobody else around.

No performance.
No pressure to make it more “normal.”
No trying to translate their vision into something easier for other people to understand.

Just intention.
Atmosphere.
Connection.
A day that felt like them from start to finish.

And in my opinion?

That’s what makes a wedding unforgettable.
Not how closely it follows the script.
But how deeply it reflects the people living it.

Humans are meant to be a little wild.

Not wild without purpose or care.
The real kind.

Barefoot goblins.
Communal. Joyful. A little chaotic. Fully alive.

We’re not meant for gray lives.
Wake up. Work. Traffic. Repeat.

We’re meant to find the things that fill our cups.
To open our hearts. To care deeply.

And your wedding or elopement gets to reflect that.

Not a Pinterest board.
Something that is you.

The butterflies before you see each other, overcome with excitement and nerves, stick your head outside a window because you might throw up energy
Your friends helping you get ready. The emotion that overtakes you when you see your partner, showing up for your love.
Eating cake with your hands.
Ending the night on the patio, with a foot massage, finally able to breathe.

Messy. Human. Full of love.

That’s the kind of wild I’m talking about.

Senior photos, but make it feel like you.

No shrinking. No overthinking.
Just being in the light, a little sun-soaked, and fully yourself.

You earned this moment.

No one really tells you that this is the last version of you before everything changes.
Senior year isn’t just a milestone.
It’s a pause.
Right before you step into something new, whether you feel ready or not.

There’s a weird in-between that happens here.
You’re still who you’ve always been…
but you can feel yourself becoming someone else at the same time.
It’s subtle, but it’s there.

This is the part where you start realizing you don’t have to be who you’ve always been.
You get to choose.
What you keep. What you leave. What you grow into.
And that’s kind of everything.

Somewhere along the way, you stop asking for permission.
You start showing up how you want.
Taking up space a little more honestly.
And it feels really good.

You don’t need to have it all figured out right now.
You just need to be here.
In this moment.
As you are.
Because this version of you?
You’re going to miss her one day.

Your venue does more than hold your wedding. It sets the tone for the whole day.

The light, the textures, the colors, the energy of a place… it all shapes how your story is told. When the location actually matches your vibe, everything falls into place. You don’t have to force anything. You just get to exist in it.

That’s why it matters.

Not because it needs to be fancy or impressive, but because it should feel like you. The right setting lets your love be the focus instead of competing with it.

It’s cool to choose something a little different.
A little unexpected.
A little more you.

Because when the space feels right, your story shows up fully.
