Dr. Jennifer Jordan is the founder of Eagle Therapist Collective in Eagle, a practice built around helping individuals live and work well.

When I arrived at her beautiful office, the choice of where to place her felt immediately clear, in her own chair. It is where her most important work happens, where people feel safe enough to be honest, and it seemed only right that her portrait should be made there.

I moved a few pieces of furniture and adjusted some details around the room to bring balance to the frame, and outside her window a quiet grove of trees softened the background with a sense of calm that felt entirely fitting for the space.

Her pose and expression said everything. The warmth and approachability that came through in those few minutes together is, I suspect, exactly what her clients feel the moment they walk through her door.

Some sessions feel like a conversation that was always meant to happen.

Suzi Boyle of Castle Cooke Mortgage works out of one of Boise's North End Victorian era homes, and the moment I walked in, we found an immediate common ground. A shared love of the artistry and craftsmanship that went into buildings like this one.

The kind of care and intention that simply isn't found in the way things are built anymore. We could have talked about it all afternoon.

For the portrait, Suzi chose her favorite feature in the building, a beautifully carved fireplace that looks much as it must have for the original homeowners over a century ago.

Standing beside it, something felt entirely right.

There is a quiet parallel between Suzi and that fireplace. The fireplace represents artistry that few take the time to create anymore. Suzi represents experience that few take the time to acquire.

Suzi brings decades of mortgage experience to every client she serves, deep enough that if the computers went down tomorrow, she could pull out paper and keep working without missing a step.

That kind of knowledge isn't common anymore, and it becomes invaluable when circumstances get complicated and a path forward isn't obvious.

Suzi genuinely likes helping people, and her ability to navigate the difficult cases is rooted in something that can't be downloaded or automated.

When I began planning Anna Marie Aldinger's portrait, she felt strongly that IBL Events' home office wasn't where her story lived. The story lived in the work itself.

It took a few days to secure the right location and time, and Anna Marie reached out with exactly the right solution.

There was an event going up at Boise Centre on the Grove, and she invited me to meet her there. Walking into that main room, the stacks of chairs, rows beginning to form, sound equipment being positioned, dozens of workers making all of that happen.

Weeks and months of planning were finally becoming something you could walk into, see and experience.

Anna Marie stood near the doorway, and everything behind her told the story of what IBL Events does better than any office wall ever could.

There was one small detail to attend to. An electronic sign to her right read "No events currently scheduled". Technically accurate for that moment, but entirely the wrong message for a portrait about a room in the process of becoming an event. A small edit removed the "No," and then the sign was right. Sometimes you just have to do that.

Anna Marie's pose and expression did the rest. The confidence and composure of someone who has coordinated countless events from concept to ex*****on, right there in the frame.

There are very few places in the Treasure Valley that stop you in your tracks the moment you walk through the door.

Chateau des Fleurs in Eagle is one of them.

The French influence isn't a decorative gesture, it runs through every detail of the building, inside and out, with the kind of intentional design that makes you feel as though you've stepped somewhere else entirely. Somewhere more opulent, more unhurried, and more refined than the world just outside its doors.

It was the perfect setting for Marcela Bullen, Manager of Chateau des Fleurs, who brings that same commitment to detail to everything she oversees.

I placed her in the main hallway, leaning into the perfect symmetry the space naturally offers, and let the architecture and lighting do what they were clearly designed to do.

Marcela reviewed the images carefully and chose the pose and expression that felt exactly right.

Her investment in getting the portrait right reflects everything Chateau des Fleurs stands for.

Chateau des Fleurs is home to Roghani's Restaurant, Wednesday Afternoon Tea, weddings, celebrations, and so much more. I've had the pleasure of dining at Roghani's myself, and it was an amazing dinner.

It was a cold, breezy morning when I met Dana Biberston at the entrance of Valnova, a master planned community taking shape in the foothills north of Eagle.

Dana is the Project Strategy Specialist for Clyde Capital Group, the developer behind the Valnova project, and her enthusiasm and passion for what is being built here was unmistakable.

As we stopped at a couple of potential locations, she would talk about areas where neighborhoods will eventually take shape. From luxury homes, to an over 55 community, and even affordable condominiums and much more. All of it still largely a hillside of earth and possibility, but Dana could see every inch of it clearly.

We found a knoll with a small cluster of homes nearly finished in the background; houses in their final stages of becoming someone's home. We braved the wind and set up the portrait there. It felt like the right place to stand. Houses that were in varying stages of completion, with more on the drawing board.

What genuinely surprised me was the sheer scale of what is coming.

Valnova has its own water tower, its own cell service, and a development timeline that stretches across the next 30 years. I had no idea something this ambitious was being built in the foothills overlooking Eagle.

I had visited the YMCA Meridian Tomlinson Center a couple of months earlier and had a sense of what the space offered, and it offers quite a lot.

When it came time to photograph Meagan Ellis, Vice President and Chief Development Officer for the Treasure Valley YMCA, we explored several options including a striking view down into the weight room. But I kept coming back to the lobby and that iconic Y logo high on the wall.

The solution was a low angle with Meagan on the railing, bringing her and the logo into the same frame and creating something contemporary and dynamic in the process. It worked because Meagan brought exactly the right energy to it. She is warm, authentic, and genuinely a joy to work with, and that comes through in this striking portrait.

What I didn't anticipate was walking away from the session with something beyond a great portrait. Our conversation turned to how The 8th Street Studio might support the YMCA's mission, and what emerged was an opportunity that feels meaningful for both of us.

That's the kind of connection these sessions sometimes create, and it's one of the things I love most about this work.

There is something refreshing about photographing someone who cares as much about the result as you do and Dr. Beth Haney of Eagle Aesthetics is just that person.

She was genuinely invested in how she would be represented in the magazine. She was curious about the lighting, thoughtful about what belonged in the frame, and attentive to every detail of the session. We worked through what the final look would be before we started the session.

I lit Beth very intentionally, and we worked through a couple of poses and expressions, and in the end we were both thrilled with the result. Confident, precise, and entirely her own.

At Eagle Aesthetics, you are the masterpiece. Spending some time with Dr. Haney, that philosophy felt completely genuine.

From the moment you step through the door of K-Counseling, something shifts. The lighting, the colors, the sounds — everything has been thoughtfully and intentionally arranged to set you at ease before you've exchanged a single word. It is a space that communicates care before anything else, and it reflects everything you need to know about its owner.

Lisa Schiro has built her practice around meeting her clients where they are and guiding them through life's most challenging moments. Among the many therapies she offers is what she calls the Zen Den — a multi-sensory experience that wraps around you with light, sound, and texture in ways that are as gentle as they are purposeful.

For the portrait, I was drawn to the hallway that leads to her patient rooms.

It wasn't the obvious choice, but it felt like the right one — the doors, the art, the quiet stretch of corridor all spoke to me of the path her clients walk toward healing.

Lisa's expression in that space said everything. The care and concern she holds for the people who come to her was simply there, unhurried and unmistakable.

Riverstone International School carries its name honestly. With 300 students representing more than 41 countries and nationalities, the school's library is lined with flags from around the world — not as decoration, but as a genuine reflection of the community gathered within those walls.

It's a distinctive and striking space, and it had already served as the backdrop for a colleague's portrait the previous year.

I really didn't want to do the same view as the previous year, so we looked around the school for other location options.

Kathy Rowen, Riverstone's Marketing Director, was patient and collaborative as we explored the school together — her office, the front entrance, a remarkable piece of art made from glass or crystal with the names of the school's donors etched into its many facets.

Each location told part of the story, but none of them felt quite right for Kathy.

So I returned to the library and simply turned around.

A different angle, a counter to lean on, and an entirely fresh portrait emerged from a space I had already been in. Sometimes the answer isn't somewhere else — it's just a matter of changing your perspective.
