I'm a family photographer based in Boise, Idaho. I'm Hannah, a fine art photographer living in San Diego, CA with my husband and our three little ones.

I teach other photographers how to create the art and business they dream of through courses, coaching, and free educational content! I am incredibly thankful for a home that is not just a location I love but a whole lot of people who I love. I never expected to be a photographer. As a child I didn't dream of creating amazing art and I never took a camera everywhere with me. In fact, I spent sever

al years as a discontented software engineer, itching to get out of the monotony of a desk job, trying to figure out what I should be doing instead. Somehow - I'm not even sure how - I realized what my instead should be. And I love it. I love photographing people. I love capturing the connection and emotion between people and preserving it in a beautiful way. I love documenting family, friendships, and romance. I love illustrating love. Real life, real relationships, real people - all living real love stories. It's a privilege and a joy to visually tell these stories for you to look back on for years to come. When I was young my best friend and I would ride her horses through the hills and then dress up like elves from The Lord of the Rings (obviously) and take pictures on horseback.

Were we the cool kids? No way. But we had a childhood untainted by social media, full of nature and adventure and creativity.

Turns out, all these many many years later, photos on horseback is still so good for the soul. Emily and her furry crew are such a highlight every year and it feels so full circle to me.

Have horses? Let’s take pictures. Honestly they’re mostly more stubborn than toddlers but they really are the best thing ever. 🐎

One of the best and wildest sessions ever: Pavoua and Dang were visiting from out of state for an anniversary trip. Right as we were each leaving to meet for their session, some thunderstorms started developing unexpectedly. We decided to chance it, knowing we could meet again later in the week if our session was ruined.

The evening started gorgeous and sunny (will post those photos another day!) but about halfway through, a thunderstorm came from over the hills and we jumped into our cars to stay safe. The wind was crazy, shaking the cars, and we watched a thick, black cloud of ash race up the mountain toward us — the wildfires this summer left huge burn scars and the wind picked up everything in its path.

After about 30 minutes, the storm was completely over. We got back out, decided to finish the session even though it was mostly dark, and then turned around to the most amazing sight I’ve ever seen: a shelf cloud (maybe, I’m no meteorologist) lit up by the setting sun, looking a lot like a giant UFO paying us a visit.

I can’t express how much I love that my job keeps me in nature. Or how wonderful it is when my clients show up like Pavoua and Dang, ready to simply enjoy each other and maybe have an adventure. This wild evening was one I won’t soon forget — creation putting on the most spectacular show and soothing my soul in the process.

Every time I get on here to share my work like I’m supposed to, I just want to tell everyone to get offline and quiet the noise and spend time in nature and love their people face to face. I’m tired of handing over my precious time (and some sanity) to entities who profit off of my distraction - and I honestly hate contributing in any way to the cycle that I despise.

Too existential for a Monday morning? Maybe. 🫠

So anyway 😅 If you’re someone who longs to create something lasting to commemorate the people who make up your whole world, and who knows family photos are made for so much more than trends and social media posts, send me a note (by email, because I probably won’t see it here).

Good news: family is the most magical mess ever, and always a joy to document!

Friends, you can trust me wholeheartedly with your family, exactly as you are. Fourteen years of parenting my own, and nearly twelve years photographing all the others. It’ll be great — promise.

This is my 12th season in business and very much my favorite so far. I think I photographed more new babies this spring than any spring ever, and it really never gets old - each new life is just as exciting and miraculous as the one before, whether it’s a family’s first or seventh (like I photographed yesterday!).

Hello & Goodbye

(Don’t worry, not a real goodbye!)

If you’ve been following along here for a while, you already know that photography education has become a huge part of what I do. I’ve always shared that here alongside my client work because I honestly couldn’t commit to managing another social media account. (In all seriousness, I’d be offline if it weren’t for work!)

But ready or not, it’s time! Photo clients and photographers looking for education are two completely separate audiences. It feels sort of like when I’m having two separate conversations with two of my kids at the same time, and it has started to get confusing. (Honestly though I’m better at that than you might think.)

This account isn’t going anywhere — I’m simply taking it back to being focused on my client work, for the wonderful families who trust me with their most precious memories.

And if you’re a photographer who is interested in practical education, honest perspectives on this awesome/weird industry, and some encouragement thrown in too, I’d love to invite you to join me over at .education.

Wherever you find me, know that I don’t take it lightly that you choose to let me into your feed. My goal has always been to add value, and that goal remains the same — this divide should help me serve each person better.

This is my most affordable offering of the year by a long shot, because I am so committed to making space to celebrate this most important and often unseen work.

These sessions are 20 minutes long and take place at my studio. I’ll be working with each mother to style her session as dressed up or dressed down as she desires.
