[Sheep ranching has a long history here in Idaho. I was driving home in late November and saw this flock of sheep out grazing, removing the last remnants from the harvested field. I quickly drove home, literally ran in the house, grabbed my Nikon and quickly drove back before the fog cleared to shoot this. The rancher was out in the field with his herding dog and saw me trying to get the shot and nodded his approval for the shot and my appreciation for his flock.] 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑

First image is the classy and SWIPE for the fabulous! 🥰 Love these images of my beautiful niece at the Boise Train Depot in downtown Boise. You'd never know that it was 100 degrees. Isabelle handled the heat like a pro!

The Boise Train Depot is a favorite location to shoot for me. There is a wide variety of textures in the beautiful Spanish-style depot which was designed by New York architects in 1925! It has an amazing overlook of the city looking straight down to the capital building. Definitely recommend stopping by if you are visiting Boise!

I was shooting the surf and a little angel appeared in my frame. Precious! I love the sheer joy on her face as she chases the waves crashing into the shore on Ka'anapali Beach, Maui.

As a photographer, I am cautious and respectful when it comes to capturing children in public. Especially given that her face is visible. As this was not a planned photograph, I asked her mother, who was standing nearby, if she would like me to delete the images or send them to her. She was tickled that I would ask and chose for me to send them to her and she loved them. I loved being able to capture this sweet moment of childhood for her mama to have forever.

I just love B/W photography. Stripping the distraction of color allows you to focus more on the emotion. What is the face saying? What is the body conveying?
*

Did you know that not all images make great black and white photos? You still must plan for proper contrast, tone, composition, texture and detail. Can the photo tell the tale without the assistance of color or do you lose the substance? The absence of color has our brain searching to figure out more of the plot of the image.

With color images we tend to compartmentalize quickly what we think the image is about. With black and white images our brains have to think differently to process them. We search the photo more for any further clues. It's really quite fascinating. When editing, I find I much prefer the soft and creamy nuanced side of b/w photography rather than a harsh deep black and stark white.

You were the happiest and most chill 4 month old baby I've ever photographed! Just a doll! Thank you to momma for letting me capture your little man whose growing up WAY too fast!😙
