If fourteen-year-old-Kylee, with the custom pink and Kelly green high top converse sneakers, could gaze 21 years into the future to see this absolute DREAM of a color scheme, I think she might just cry like I did over the weekend at 35.

This job of mine is an absolute honor, privilege, and ball of a freaking time. Logan and Ian were surrounded by the most pure love that had me all up in my feels all damn day long.

To I tried something that went against everything I learned in the beginning of my wedding photography career…

In the great year of 2016, I started this amazing career shift into the wedding industry and I’ve never looked back. But I’ve been having some introspective thoughts about my journey and wanted to really push myself by planning a creative shoot just for myself that was the opposite of everything I did when I started photographing weddings.

Here are the things I really leaned into for this shoot that I NEVER would have preferred or utilized on purpose in the beginning of my career…

🌞 purposely planning to photograph midday. It was alllllll golden hour or bust back then.

📸 using flash with natural light. I’m going to be so far real… I didn’t use flash midday because I didn’t know how and it was intimidating as hell.

👐🏼 wiiiiiide angle lens for portrait photography. I was rocking an 85mm for portrait work for while because I was scared of too much distortion. But now, I’m so down to get weird and LOVE a good 16mm moment.

Not only was this experiment a way for me to flex some creative muscles as a reflected back on my photography journey, but it is also a great example to show that trends and styles come and go. No matter what you’re choosing for your work, just make sure you love it. 🥰

One of the biggest things I’ve learned after 10 years in the wedding industry is that your wedding day is SO much smoother when your vendor team works together like a well-oiled machine.

The best wedding days happen when vendors trust each other, hype each other up, problem solve fast, and collectively protect the energy of the day so couples can actually be present instead of stressed tf out. THAT is the kind of experience I want for every couple I work with.

So I’m really excited to officially be joining this year. I’m excited to meet new faces in the Philly wedding world, build relationships with insanely talented humans, and continue learning from people I’ve looked up to for years.

And also… respectfully… I will absolutely be bringing my loud love for nontraditional weddings, colorful chaos, dance floor energy, q***r love stories, personality-forward celebrations, and “let’s make this feel like YOU” energy into the conversation 💅

Because the industry needs more room for weddings that break the rules a little.

Here’s to building community, leveling up the experience for my couples, and making more magic with good people ✨

Not your average wedding photographer intro post ✨

Hi, I’m Kylee… a Pennsylvania wedding photographer documenting colorful, emotional, personality-forward weddings throughout Philadelphia, Central PA, Baltimore, NYC, New Jersey, and beyond.

I’m here for the couples who care more about presence than perfection. The couples who want candid wedding photography that actually feels like their day. They want the loud laugh, blurry dance floor photos, nostalgic film photography, and all the weird little in between moments that end up meaning the most years later.

Kylee and I absolutely clicked the moment she and Tom inquired with me. Not just because of us having the same name (spelling and all!) but because these two are the absolute sweetest people in the entire world…literally two baby cherubs.

My cheeks actually hurt after their wedding from smiling all day and that same joy radiates throughout their entire preview gallery. Every direction you turned was full of colorful, intentional experiences that brought personal unique touches that made their wedding day feel just like them.

Let’s talk 💡 ✨ LIGHT ✨💡

I truly believe deep in the pit of my stomach that booking a photographer who understands how to photograph all lighting situations is absolutely crucial if you deeply care about your wedding photos. So many of the social media horror stories I see revolving around couples not liking their photos has everything to do with the photographer not understanding how to use the lighting to their benefit OR when it is time to pivot to artificial lighting.

In this post, I used direct flash, shutter drag, and good ole ambient lighting in these photos. (Motion blur is in there too, but that’s a whole different topic).

As a photographer, light is the most important tool I use to achieve how I want your photos to look. High tech gear is important for reliability, consistency, and quality. But when it comes to artistry, light really is that girl.

I’d love to hear what questions you have about light and how I use it throughout the whole wedding day. 🙂
