Light. Photographers, are we not but light chasers? Light finders? Light catchers?

The dawn breaks. The light reaches my eye. 8 minutes and 20 seconds ago, it graced the surface of the sun. Thousands of years ago it set out on a journey from the core of a star. Light. Starlight.

A violent beginning, a beautiful end as a tiny particle lands on the field illuminating the morning haze and crowning the subject. Emotions stir in my chest because of light. An electromagnetic wave has reflected at just the right time, at just the right place, at just the right length to paint its destination in that glow and color that can only be found when the sun greets a new day.

With camera in hand, I search for the story light is telling. Noticing its presence, its absence. What it reveals. What it hides. It’s magic.

Yes, I do think we are but light chasers, the conduit with which light speaks to us mortals. What is it trying to say? What message does it bring? Take the picture.
