Knicks fans don’t deserve this ring.

The rivalry between Victor Wembanyama and New York is becoming one of the biggest storylines of these Finals.

Over the past week, Wemby has been heckled outside the team hotel, booed every time he touched the ball inside Madison Square Garden, and turned into the villain of New York basketball.”

After the Game 3 Win, the Spurs Team bus was surrounded heckled & harassed as the team left MSG. Fans were followed, beat up and their jerseys were ripped off. One Spurs fan was even curb stomped.

Heading into Game 4 Uncivilized Knicks fans viscously taunting Wemby shouting profanity as he loaded the team bus heading to Game 4.

Following Game 4, more videos surfaced online showing Knicks fans surrounding the Spurs as they returned to their hotel, with some fans crossing the line from passionate support into behavior that many around the league would consider unacceptable.

There’s a difference between being a passionate fanbase and targeting players away from the arena.

Nobody expects opposing fans to cheer for Victor Wembanyama, especially after he’s spent the Finals breaking Knicks hearts. But when the focus shifts from basketball to harassing players outside their hotel, the conversation changes.

Wemby has handled it all with remarkable composure, continuing to let his play do the talking despite becoming Public Enemy No. 1 in New York.

The reality is simple: Knicks fans don’t hate Wembanyama because he’s dirty, disrespectful, or controversial. They hate him because he’s good.

Really good. He’s walked into Madison Square Garden and become the obstacle standing between New York and a championship. That’s what happens to superstars. They become villains in opposing cities. And right now, there may not be a bigger villain in New York sports than Victor Wembanyama.
