Sometimes you just have to let the venue speak to you...

We had shot this family's season around 11am, which meant that the sun was doing it's harshest work out there, especially here in South Florida. When it came for looking for a spot for mom to do her portraits, I had a place at the park already mind for that time of day, but on the way walking to it, I noticed the sunlight coming through these trees as it hit me in the eyes walking underneath them. Literally stopped me in my tracks. I set my gear bag down and got her under the trees, got a big fill light out and let the sun do its thing. After a few shots, I walk over to show mom the results in camera to let her know what she's working with. The rest of the shoot was effortless.

When you have to cumbersomely get a kid into a tree for portraits, you reward him by letting him riff off his best Zoolanders.

This kid was an absolute blast to photograph.

I recently had a family portrait session with a mother and her son.
Once I met these two and spent some time with them during their session, it was clear to me I had to try to convey the bond these two have with each other and bring it into their photos. The serious and the fun sides.
