This “off season” held more than I expected, in the best way. January took me through Italy, Austria, and Germany, soaking in new places and perspectives that always seem to shape the way I see and document moments. I also had the honor of stepping in for a photographer friend, capturing two weddings while she welcomed her first baby into the world. There is something deeply meaningful about using this skill to support others in both big and quiet seasons.

Speaking of babies, I’ve photographed five newborn sessions already this year. While weddings remain at the heart of what I do, I do take on a limited number of portrait and commercial sessions each year, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of those stories here.

I’m easing back in by sharing a glimpse into Sierra and Bryce’s October wedding, a day that felt like everything we love about fall in the Midwest. The quiet sound of leaves underfoot, a soft breeze (actually very windy) carrying laughter across the fields, and an evening rain that made the glow inside feel even warmer.

Their day was sweet, full of joy, and such a reflection of who they are together. The kind of celebration that centers on presence, connection, and the people who matter most.

A beautiful day made possible by an incredible team:
Venue: The Paddock
Florist: Rhinestones & Roses
Dress Boutique: Marie Gabriel Couture Bridal
Groom Attire: Louies Tux Shop

PART TWO

Morning light changed everything. Clear skies, sunshine, and the mountains fully awake. We traveled down one peak and up another by cable car, eventually settling into a sleigh ride through alpine pastures that felt untouched and endless. Bells chimed softly. Snow sparkled. The stillness did most of the talking. Lunch in the mountains tasted better because of the journey there. This group, these women, made every moment richer.

Evenings returned us home. Yoga. Candlelight. Thoughtfully prepared meals. This retreat was always meant to be about nature as a quiet healer. Slowing down. Listening inward. Reflecting on what the last year held and what we hope to carry forward.

The days unfolded with variety and ease. A 900-year-old abbey. Wine tastings. Wandering through Brixen. The unexpected thrill of watching the Olympic torch run through town. Then a choose-your-own-adventure day where rest won. Naps. Books. Sauna sessions. Skis clicking on just outside our door. Snowball fights finished with warm mugs of Glühwein. A small slice of heaven, exactly as it should be.

We pushed ourselves, too. Snowshoeing up a mountain after a fresh overnight snowfall, lungs burning and legs tired, rewarded with views that stretched endlessly in every direction. Later, skiing at Plose in Brixen. From seasoned skiers to first lessons, everyone finding their rhythm in the snow. Challenge balanced with joy.

Our final day arrived too quickly. Slow mornings. Wandering town. Lingering in bed just a little longer. That evening, dressed in white, we gathered around a snowy tablescape one last time. Laughter. Tears. Long hugs. Dancing that felt like a proper goodbye. The kind that stays with you.

Illuminare Retreat, led so thoughtfully by Amanda, continues to remind me how life-giving these experiences can be. creates space for rest, reflection, and connection in a way that lingers long after you return home.

A million thanks to for dreaming this week up with us and holding us so well. Already missing it. Already grateful. Until next time.

PART ONE

Home, for a week, perched high in the Dolomites.

A place where German and Austrian influence softly meets Italy. Winding mountain roads dusted in snow. Quiet, intentional beauty.
sat patiently on the mountaintop waiting for us. A modern space built with hospitality at its core and views meant to slow your breathing the moment you arrive.

Illuminare seems to carry a bit of magic. It hadn’t snowed since November, and then, just as we arrived, the sky opened up. Big, soft flakes fell steadily, wrapping everything in white. The mountains hid themselves behind clouds at first, almost playful, saving the reveal for later.

There are moments like this when I’m deeply aware of how extraordinary it is that my camera has taken me all over the world. Into places I never imagined I would stand. With people I may not have met otherwise. Photography continues to open doors, create connection, and invite me into stories far bigger than my own.

Our first hours together were unhurried. An apéritif. Introductions. Laughter. Then the pull of fresh snow outside. Cameras came out, coats zipped up, and we ran into the quiet snowfall like children. The kind of beginning you can’t plan, only receive.

January has a loud opinion about who we’re supposed to become.

New goals. New habits. New energy. Reinvent everything immediately.

But it’s the dead of winter.

The ground is frozen. The trees are resting. Nothing in nature is sprinting toward reinvention right now, and frankly, neither am I.

This month I’m moving slowly. I’m revisiting old galleries. Sitting with past work. Taking notes on the moments that still make me pause. The light I loved. The frames that felt true. The images that remind me why I started in the first place.

Not everything needs to be new to be meaningful. Some things just need space to breathe again.

If you’re feeling pressured to start fresh before you’re ready, you’re not behind. You’re human. Join me in ignoring the noise and choosing rest, reflection, and a little creative hibernation. Winter has wisdom too.

Spending a summer evening at .estate in Cincinnati felt like stepping into a place where time slows down just enough to notice every detail. The grounds stretch wide with pockets of light that shift as the sun fades, and the historic architecture gives every corner a sense of quiet significance. It is the kind of venue that invites you to wander, to pause, and to create images that feel both refined and deeply rooted.

I am always drawn to spaces that hold history in their walls and offer room for couples to be fully themselves. Peterloon does that beautifully. The blend of open landscapes and timeless structures makes it a dream to photograph, especially on warm evenings when everything seems to glow.

As I look ahead to the next year, I keep returning to the couples whose weddings reflect layered cultures, blended traditions, and families coming together in ways that feel deeply meaningful. Some of my favorite moments as a wedding photographer are found in these spaces, where heritage becomes part of the storytelling and every gesture holds a sense of history.

Documenting multicultural weddings invites a different kind of attentiveness. The colors, the music, the ceremonies, the quiet rituals that might otherwise be missed, these pieces shape an emotional landscape that deserves to be photographed with honesty and respect. I love approaching these days with a documentary, editorial eye, capturing the way families honor where they come from while building something new together.

Next year is filled with couples whose backgrounds span countries, languages, and traditions, and I feel grateful to be trusted with stories that hold this level of depth. These are the weddings that remind me that photography is both art and archive. A way for generations to see themselves, and to see the people who came before them.

I cannot wait to step into these celebrations and preserve the layers that make them unforgettable.

These past few months have felt like a season of shifts. My husband stepped into a new job, fall brought an unexpected wave of eight new weddings, and my kids moved into the heart of their competitive sport schedules. Life stretched in new directions and, for a while, I let myself lean into the quiet.

Stepping back from social media wasn’t planned, it was simply necessary. There was something grounding about being fully present, watching the rhythms of our family settle into place, and photographing couples whose days were filled with the kind of meaning that reminds me why I do this work.

As I look toward the upcoming year, I feel a renewed excitement for the weddings I get to document across Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, California, and abroad. Travel is woven throughout the calendar, and so are the slower moments at home that help me create from a place of intention rather than urgency.

I’m easing back into sharing here, one honest moment at a time. There is so much beauty from this fall that I cannot wait to bring forward.
