Jorden asked about doing a birthday photoshoot, so we took it downtown and kept it simple.

We started at the riverfront, wandered through the brick arches, and ended up on a windy parking deck just chasing good light.

No big setup. No over-the-top theme. Just celebrating another year in a way that felt like her.

And honestly, that’s my favorite kind of birthday session.

Bringing some snow back to your feed as this Illinois weather drops from the 60’s back to 16 this weekend 😭

My hands were absolutely freezing.
The snow was still beautiful.
Barkley was thriving.

We explored a new spot and let winter do its thing… and they fully committed by rolling in the snow at the end for fun.

10/10 would lose feeling in my fingers again.

Remember these two back in October??

I remember saying something out loud that day, half joking, half catching myself, about how I’m so used to engagements now… and Carson didn’t have a ring on her finger yet.

But something about the way they walked together, slow and easy, like they weren’t in a rush to be anywhere else, felt different. No nerves, no big energy. Just steady. Like this moment was always coming, even if no one said it yet.

Turns out, I was just early to the story.

And getting to watch it unfold like this, quietly, intentionally, surrounded by the people who love them most, is exactly why I’ll never get tired of photographing love.

Sunday morning was a good one. Met a new family and made a couple new four-pawed friends too, Miku and Dribble. A new space, a lot of exploring, plenty of chair hopping, and a steady rotation of laps. Snacks were involved.

Miku especially had zero issues being in front of the camera and seemed happiest right in the middle of everything. One of those family sessions that felt more like hanging out than photographing.

Some snowstorms lead to cancellations and reschedules. Others lead to the kind of winter day you cross your fingers for. Thirty degrees, snow still on the ground, and just enough warmth to slow down and stay a while. Cadie and Zach tucked into the trees, flannel layers pulled close, and Hershey making sure he was right where the people are. Quiet moments like this are always worth waiting for.
