I don't just take pictures of birds. Here is another passion of mine, fencing! Most of the time I end up Trying to stop the action, like in the first photo. Fencers move so fast that this is often difficult. So I tried to switch it up and incorporate that movement into the shot in the second photo, though it is harder than it looks!

In memory of my adviser, Elaina Tuttle, who recently passed away. This is a white-throated sparrow that she spent much of her life researching, and became the worlds foremost expert on the species. I truly wouldn't be where I am today without her, and I know many others that will say the same.

This sandhill crane had its dancing shoes on this spring, strutting, displaying, and calling as it walked over a frozen pond with its partner. You may normally see sandhills as grey, but up in the U.P. of Michigan, they take on a rusty color due to compounds in the soil, water, and insects they feed on!
