Lilly Ferrell was the definition of amazing.
Not only was she the best grandma in the world, but she truly loved everyone. She spent her entire life giving all she had to improve the lives of others.
She was an active member of her church, volunteering to visit shut-ins who were sick and unable to attend services long before church was streamed online. She helped run multiple food and clothing closets and went into communities to help people that many others wouldn’t dare to enter.
She was one of the individuals who helped start the Christmas dinner downtown, providing hot meals, blankets, coats, gloves, and other necessities to those experiencing homelessness. She was a longtime member of United Way and served as Director of the Contact Crisis Line, a su***de prevention service where people experiencing mental health emergencies could call and speak with someone 24 hours a day.
She also volunteered with AIDS patients, helping them navigate their new reality with compassion, dignity, and absolutely no judgment. Her faith was unwavering, and she was always there for anyone who needed her, no matter the time or circumstance.
She was a key figure in my life, and her example continues to inspire me every day. Because of her, I want to find meaningful ways to give back and make a difference in our community.
In her honor, I would like to dedicate a day to offering FREE ultrasound sessions to families who may not otherwise be able to afford them—because every baby deserves to be celebrated.
This is just the beginning. I hope to continue finding ways to support our community and carry on the spirit of service that she embodied so beautifully.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on ways we can make an even greater impact together, it doesn’t have to be pregnancy related. I’d love for Danville/Pittsylvania County small businesses to all come together to support the greater good. ❤️
A back to school community event where we can provide back packs, school supplies, going into nursing homes and providing to those in need there, our special needs communities and providing resources for them. There is so much we can do to help others, if only everyone would come together.
