Jocelyn Marie Photography Joshua Tree Photographer documenting cool cats & kittens through their unique journeys through life. Hello everybody!

My name is Jocelyn and I am an aspiring lifestyle and portraiture photographer recently relocated to the sunny state of California. My childhood passion turned into a high school elective, that lead to a major in Business/Marketing and started up my own small business. I specialize in intimate weddings (small weddings and courthouse weddings), couples (engagement + maternity), and model expansion.

My main goal is to tell a story of your special event, capturing details, priceless moments, and the beauty of each individual that steps in front of my camera.

One day we’ll sit together and you will ask me about this time.⁣

We will peruse the old photos of us, and talk about the stage of life you won’t remember a lot of but which I’ll never be able to forget. The beautiful and chaotic stage of little hands and feet, of big mess and emotions.⁣

I’ll look different to the photos by then, time having aged me. You’ll probably make comment on my then hair colour, or laugh at my then style, or tell me how young I looked back then.⁣

And I’ll laugh too. And defend myself. And compare me now to me then.⁣
Because that’s what it’s all about.⁣

And then I’ll tell you more.⁣

I’ll tell you that this was then, this was me, this was us. You were that small and I was that young.⁣

I’ll tell you that we lived here in this house, in this kitchen, in each other’s arms. I held you like this, and watched you like that.⁣

I’ll tell you that when this photo was taken, you had been running circles around me all day and I was tired. I was always tired. You loved to be busy but it kept me on my toes.⁣

I’ll tell you that we shared many one sided stories at the sink, or the bath or anywhere really. And tears, and laughter. It was all easier then, even though it felt harder.⁣

I’ll tell you things about yourself that you didn’t already know, and I’ll be the first to admit that I was not perfect. But I was there for you. We were there for each other.⁣

I’ll tell you that these were the best days. Of us at home, doing everything some days and nothing other days. It all went too fast.⁣

I may not think to tell you, but I’ll want to relive this.⁣
I’ll want to go back to just us. To be more than an after thought.⁣
But I won’t be able to.⁣
So I will take you back there with me, with my photos, and my stories and my memories triggered by all of the little things I keep to remind me of this time.⁣

We will relive it, together.⁣
One day.⁣
But for now, let me live it longer.⁣

I met 102-year-old Thelma in her home before I photographed her. We chatted and I learned all about her incredible 102 years on this earth. When I learned that she lost her first daughter, Francis Lorraine at 2 months old, I lost it. The tears just poured out of my eyes and I had a hard time catching my breath.

I told her that I lost my first daughter too. We talked about her little Francis Lorraine and my little Ava Maria. I paused as I allowed myself to breath through the tears. Then, I looked at her and said, "I just have one question for you. Does it still hurt?"

Thelma is blind, so she did not look back at me. She looked straight ahead and raised her chin a little bit, very strong and poised in her conviction, and she said, "Yes, it still hurts".

It still hurts.

She is 102 years old and it still hurts. I knew what she was going to say, but I still needed to ask. I needed to hear her say it. It is still hurts.

You are not alone. There is a tribe of women that have carried that immeasurable sorrow for decades and it still hurts. But, Thelma is living proof of the most magnificent, beautiful, FULL, incredible life after the most heartbreaking of losses. She is a beacon of hope and grace, shining bright for the world. ❤ What a comfort.

I will treasure that memory of her until I take my last breath. ❤

Here is Thelma with her beautiful rainbow daughter. ❤

In loving memory of Francis Lorraine, April 27th 1941 to June 12th 1941.

This is so sweet!
This is what photographers are wondering about as you plan your session. It's the little touches like this that help us tell your story.

This dress has been in this family for 102 years. It very first belonged to her great great Grandmother. It has been passed down and worn by every female in the family. I adore the story and the beautiful detail on the shoulders.

You ever just left a photoshoot where either you (photographer) felt like you did at your gig was just PERFECT? Or for ladies or gents in front of the camera: have you ever gone to a session where you're like DANG, I HAD FUN AND FELT LIKE A BADDIE THE WHOLE TIME?!

This one was one of those shoots that nourished every part of my ✨soul✨
✅I felt like professional level 3000 with my client experience!
✅I felt like communication between her vision and mine were on the same wavelength.
✅My clients and I KNEW the assignment
✅She trusted me with her vision and booked my highest package.
✅That in turn gave me more time to BE creative for US.
✅That allowed us to have those little breaks in between shots, to hydrate, to do an outfit change, with no worry.
✅That allowed me to take those moments to try out new techniques and give them a guided excursion in Joshua Tree.
✅And overall, this experienced made me realize that we were both worth this investment.

I want to share with y'all a little mini series if you will, on ✨leveling up that client experience✨: like what does that all even mean?! LOL

My definition: it's the process you/your brand walks clients through from first point of contact to closing the sale.
✋🏼 🛑✋🏼 🛑✋🏼 🛑
And first things first, this whole process actually starts with YOU.

Having that solid foundation of
✅realizing WHO you are as a brand/business
✅knowing WHAT you bring to the table
✅HOW you can be of service to your future clients
➡️ lead to to WHY your clients should book with you!

I have to have this come to Jesus moment at least 2x a year: in my season of rest and when business is at full capacity. Your seasons might differ from mine:
❌before/after a move
❌career change
❌lifestyle change
❌or the universe is sending you those signs that change is about to happen

No matter what life is throwing your or what season you are in, I know that your best life is right there at your fingertips. I'm sending prayers + positive energy as you prepare to uplevel yourself, your business, and giving your clients that special experience!✨

If you would have told me that a wife / mother / woman could be married to someone in the military, have a family, is able to work from home, have opportunities to travel for work, OR have clients traveling to book a photoshoot was attainable, I would have said NOT POSSIBLE.

I would say "NOT POSSIBLE" - despite my childhood dreams were to always be an artist.

I would have said "NOT POSSIBLE" - despite wishing I could be a photographer ever since being a yearbook editor in high school.

I would have said "NOT POSSIBLE" - in my first year of college doing pre-nursing👩‍⚕️

I would have said "NOT POSSIBLE" - because we move around too much and I can't do it all, at the same time.🤷🏻‍♀️

Little did I know that when I started looking at my dreams as my Plan A, I was able to break glass ceilings, find success despite and find a way to flourish during a pandemic, and provide so much value to my clients that they're willing to drive 3+ hours for a session.
💥STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF - don't forget the dreams you had as a child or the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year.
💥EAT THAT FROG - If you haven't read this book by the legendary Brian Tracy, DO IT NOW. Getting uncomfortable means you're undergoing change. Learn how to overcome your procrastination, understand where your time management is at.
💥INVEST, INVEST, INVEST - Do not. stop. investing. into. YOU. I go off the rule that 10% of earnings should be going into personal development. That could be a new book enhance your skills, a class, workshop, mentoring, etc.
💥NOTHING IS FREE - Nothing is free and that includes your time. That also includes someone else's time. Even when you have made a great connection with someone, make up for the time they spent on you and find a way to add EXTRA VALUE to them.
💥DO IT WITH INTENTION -I guarantee that if your heart's not in the right place, people will see it before you do.

Now go out there, and make those dreams POSSIBLE✌🏽
