Somehow, this precious boy turned one last week. Swipe through to see how he felt about the cake. Spoiler: he did not like the cake. Also, read on if you’d like to learn his name story. It’s special one (to us, at least). Long post alert!!
There are so many things I could say about Owen – about how he has blessed our entire family, how we don’t deserve him, how we are so very thankful God had him in the plan for the White family.
He’s our most popular family member, loves people + makes friends everywhere he goes, and operates on his own timeline. He’s observant and funny and loves to eat (I should’ve mentioned that first, it’s basically a personality trait).
He says mama, dada, some variation of his siblings’ names, dog, cat, ball, please, “that!” and makes lots of funny sounds when he’s playing with cars, planes, etc. And no, he’s not even close to walking. I’m sure his first steps will be toward food. 😂
And since I never shared his name story, now seems good! Back in 2015, when we were expecting our now-seven year old, we had the name Owen picked out for our next boy. Since we ended up having 2 more girls, we didn’t think we’d get to use it. Enter baby #5, and he was a boy! He already had a name 🙌. I told a friend the name we had chosen, and she stopped me and asked if I knew its origin. I didn’t, so she explained: Owen is an anglicized version of the Latin name “Eugene.” And friends who don’t know: my dad’s name was Eugene (he went by Gene). We’d had the name picked out for years, with no boy to give it to - until after my dad passed away. The story gets even better that against all odds, Owen was born on – you guessed it – my dad’s birthday. In summary: we unknowingly named him after my dad and they share a birthday. You can’t make this stuff up.
Happy birthday, Owen! We cannot wait to see what year two holds for our best little guy!!!
