Taking it back to Joey + Kiki’s outdoor portion of their session!
Okay, let’s talk about outfits for a second. I would not say outfits are everything because emotion always comes first, at least in my opinion. But outfits absolutely help elevate a photo and play a big role in setting the mood and tones of the images!
Kiki already has incredible style, but I still sent over some outfit inspiration. Luckily she already had pieces in her closet that worked perfectly with the inspo!
A few tips if you want to elevate your outfits:
1. Find your color palette.
Whenever I make mood boards for clients who want help with outfits, I start by choosing a color palette. From there, I look for clothing that fits within those tones. It helps everything feel cohesive and intentional.
2. Mix textures and patterns.
Different textures photograph so well. They add depth, movement, and make the photos feel more dynamic.
3. Layer your outfits.
Layering instantly makes an outfit feel more interesting and put together. It also gives us more posing options. A chunky cardigan can be worn normally, pulled off the shoulder, slipped off both shoulders, or left unbuttoned halfway down. Small changes like that can completely shift the mood of a photo.
4. Don’t be afraid of two piece outfits.
This one is mainly for the girls :) Dresses are always a great option, but if you do not usually wear dresses, do not feel like you have to. There are so many cute ways to elevate an outfit that is not a dress.
5. Lastly + Most importantly, love what you are wearing!!!
If you do not feel confident in your outfit or you are constantly adjusting something, it will show in the photos. Choose something that fits well and that you feel comfortable moving around in so you are not worrying about it the entire time.
I could honestly talk about this forever, but I’ll save the rest for another time. Hopefully if you're someone struggling with putting outfits together this helps steer you in the right direction :)
