EARLY VOTING CONTINUES THROUGH NOV. 2
Early in-person voting began Monday in Lee County and across the state.
Lee County Board of Voter Registration and Elections Executive Director Kaulonda Lewis said there are two polling places open in the county for early voting—one at the Voter Registration Office on Gregg Street in Bishopville and one in Lynchburg. By law, all 46 counties must have at least one early voting location. This is the first presidential election where South Carolina has early voting after the state Legislature passed a law in 2022 allowing for a two-week, in-person, no excuse needed, early voting period.
Polling locations will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Saturday, Nov. 2, with one exception. They’ll be closed Oct. 27, since state law bans voting on Sunday.
“So there’s no need to wait until Nov. 5 to vote,” Lewis said. The same rules for early voting apply as on Election Day. Voters will be asked to show identification.
Lewis said on Monday morning, at one point, the line of people ready to cast their ballots stretched out the door and around the building. By 1:30 p.m., more than 300 people had cast ballots. In addition, she said in the past month or so, more than 1,300 people had registered to vote. “We’ve seen growth in voter numbers in almost all of the county’s precincts,” Lewis said.
