Yosemite Morning.

Here is where photography becomes frustrating.
I had been up since 4:30 AM to scout a great Yosemite sunrise location. I finally found it at Cook's Meadow... the iconic Yosemite Elm Tree planted by James Mason Hutchings over 150 years ago. I found the perfect spot, set up my tripod with camera and adjusted my settings. One last look through the viewfinder as the sun is about to peek through the leaves and I see a bunch of tourists traipsing through the meadow and my picture to take selfies.
That's how a sunrise picture became an early morning picture.

I got out of bed early this morning hoping that we would have another day of clouds in Yosemite. No such luck... It was a bright sunny morning with blue skies.
I still got a couple of good images by avoiding the big vistas and focusing on small, intimate landscapes instead.
The bright light and associated deep shadows definitely added an interesting twist to this otherwise mundane view. As always, it's all about the light.

This is one of the images that I took of Hidden Falls after the rainstorms and subsequent flooding in January 2017. One of the most memorable days of photography. Torrential rains kept the water rushing and roaring; communication with my fellow photographer and friend Terry was only possible through gestures.
This is going to be one of my prints for the Sierra Art Trails at Branches Books & Gifts October 6 and 7.

Branches Books & Gifts.

This one has been one of my favorite images. It's really the essence of what I want to create as a photographer. There is more to it than just beauty. It has to be about emotion.

I took this picture of the Port of Hamburg from the new Elbphilharmonie in November 2016. What a night that was! Came home early in the morning with a card full of great images.
Anyway, in anticipation of my Germany trip next month I looked through the old files and decided to re-edit this one in black and white. I think it gives it a more timeless, moody feel.
