Been hard at work on my new pieces for the Bluff Park Art Show this Saturday!
Here are some pics of a few of my transfer pieces in progress (none of their finished states yet).

It's always a physical & emotional rush getting a new body of work done, including the relief of successes and the sinking feeling of failures (see last photo). But such is the nature of art- it can't be perfect every time and I want to document that. At least those hours & hours of work can maybe be an encouragement to other artists instead of a total waste.
So if you're an artist and feel like nothing is going right and everything in one piece of art's power is going against you, you're not alone!! Art is so much trial & error and I tend to forget about the error part until it ruins my day. But if we didn't fail sometimes, then we wouldn't ever appreciate the successes! So keep trucking, scrap your piece and just start over. It doesn't feel good at first, but it feels so much better at the end of it knowing you didn't lower your standards and valued your work enough to get the piece right, even if it means putting in those extra hours.

In honor of Colorado's 147th Birthday today, here is the last category of fave photos from my CO trip in Jan/Feb- Wildlife!
These were all taken in Rocky Mountain National Park, except for the first Magpie, taken on the way there outside Denver.
This shows the full range of animals we encountered, which was even more than I expected in the middle of winter. The mountain lion being the most rare to see, that was a magical experience. The night moose photos leave much to be desired, but I had so greatly wanted to sight a moose and was super excited to see two together the night before we left, so still wanted to include those here.
Winter is a wonderful time to visit the park for many reasons, but hope to visit next time in summer to photograph some of the wildlife that hides in the winter.
Love this beautiful state full of wonder. Happy Birthday, Colorado! 🎂🎉🇺🇲

Part 2 Colorado trip favorites- Landscapes

Though it was snowing so often while we were in Rocky Mountain Ntl Park and the snow obscured many good possible landscape shots, I like the moodiness that it added.
These were taken on both the east (Estes Park) and west (Grand Lake) sides of the park.
With the ever-changing atmosphere of snowy Colorado winter days there is a lot of tonal variation, often surreal. We don't get that often in Alabama, so it was neat to see how my camera would capture these differences.

Finally have had a chance to go through all my Colorado trip photos! Wanted to share my faves but since there are a lot, they'll be separated into categories over different posts.
First are the (digital) Multiple Exposures. The first 3 are of the beautiful & famous Union Station in Denver.
The next 2 are of a wonderful hidden gem we stumbled upon on the way to RMNP- The Chapel on the Rock at Camp St. Malo.
And the last 4 were taken in Rocky Mountain National Park- first 2 from East side, next 2 from West side.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! ☘️🇮🇪
I always think about this indescribably beautiful island, but moreso today than usual. So thankful I got to go there and can't wait until I can be there again.
"May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow
May the soft winds freshen your spirit
May the sunshine brighten your heart
May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you
And may God enfold you in the mantle of His love." - Gaelic blessing 💚

While snowmobiling right outside of Rocky Mountain National Park in the Arapahoe National Forest , I was given the rare opportunity of a large mountain lion sighting.
Upon seeing us and hearing the snowmobile, the majestic cat started running down the snowy trail. Once he was about 100 yards away, he slowed down and decided it was safe enough to walk. During that time, I was thankfully able to get my camera & telephoto lens out of my camera bag (which also tried to escape me twice on the ride).
After we started the motor again for the continuation down the trail, the lion ran again and jumped down to a hiding place in a space beneath a wooden fence. On our way past I snapped the photo of him watching us, and thankfully we had a quick getaway vehicle.
Some locals assume this cat is a male because of its size.
Being a Birmingham, Alabama native this was surely a sight to behold and an experience I will never forget.

Though things aren't perfect, God has blessed us through many ways with an opportunity for a winter adventure! At the beginning of the month, we took a road trip from AL to VA for a bit, then a much bigger road trip from VA to CO. We just arrived in CO on Sat. night (through a snowstorm, no less) and I'm so excited to be able to take photos here & finally get some good artwork material.
This place is so majestic & magical, especially in the winter! I've been twice before but only in summer, so seeing this amazing landscape blanketed in white is such a treat.
