Lately, several moms have brought in outfits they wore as little girls for their daughters’ portraits, and it gets me every time.

The outfits are sweet, but it’s the history behind them that makes these images so special. Watching a grandchild wear something that once belonged to their parent has a way of bringing everyone right back to those memories.

A beautiful reminder that some things are worth holding onto.

Happy Mother’s Day to the women I’m honored to photograph, and to the ones that shaped me most. I’m so grateful for all of you.

I didn’t choose family photography. I think it chose me. There’s nothing I’d rather spend my life documenting.

And getting pictures done with my own kids? It’s taught me a lot. The getting-ready chaos, the bribing, the sweat, the “why did I think this was a good idea” moment right before the shutter clicks, and then looking back at those photos and feeling nothing but gratitude that I made the time. Every single time.

There’s nothing more worth preserving than this.

P.S. Print. Your. Photos. Even the blurry ones from your phone. Hang them up. Your kids are watching, and what they see on those walls tells them exactly who they are.

When I’m going through your galleries and preparing them for delivery, the sibling photos always stop me for a second.

These are the images they’ll look back on someday. The ones they’ll search for when they’re grown. Their built-in best friend, documented exactly as they were in this season.

Maybe it feels personal to me because my sister is still my best friend. Some of my favorite photos are the ones of us together when we were little, and even now, we still make a point to take them.

Looking forward to capturing more of these sibling memories this summer.

May is here! As we start transitioning into more outdoor sessions, I’ll still be taking on studio sessions but my weekends are limited for the summer.
