My Lottie dog arrived in my life right when I felt like everything was unraveling. A sudden move, major career shift, and the loss of a community that I loved.

This dog was a gift from God that turned everything I was scared of into a blessing. She made the monotony of suburbia into an every day adventure of meeting new neighbors, exploring open spaces, and finding out which shops had the best dog treats (a tie between Anthropologie and Ace Hardware.)

She has been my constant companion on the loneliest days, my road trip co-pilot, and the most loyal friend. I will miss the sound of her snores and pitter-patter across the house, the sassy look in her eye when the walk has gone on a little too long, and the feeling of her fur that has dried so many of my tears.

Although she wasn’t terribly impressed with destinations like Yosemite, Los Angeles, or Napa, Lottie loved every beach she visited- especially the ones filled with families who might share a snack. She loved people watching at cafes, a fragrant breeze, and long car rides, but most of all she loved being curled up beside us.

These past four years have been filled with several lifetimes of love and adventures because of this dog. She came to me when I needed her most, helped me through the thick of it, and this past week she’s let me know that her work is done.
My heart aches, but has been healed and filled with love several times over because of her. What a sweet and precious gift.
