Last week, we mapped Goat Island off Cape Porpoise Harbor in Maine. The lighthouse is an iconic landmark in the harbor. It was established in 1833 and has been a beacon for boaters since that time. It has seen shipwrecks, ferocious storms, generations of keepers, countless visitors, Presidents, and the most glorious sunsets in Kennebunkport. Today, Goat Island and Goat Island Lighthouse is owned and maintained by the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust.The first Nor'easter in Marsh washed over the island. While the lighthouse, the house and connecting sheltered walkway survived, there is enough broken and scattered support material to occupy the volunteers when the weather finally warms up.
